It's popular, but not always better. In fact, you can usually get better RAM for cheaper...

See if you can find out what chipsets the sticks use. That's what really matters.

With that setup, you should definitely overclock your CPU. And in doing so, you can overclock your RAM. Either way, RAM underclocks, so I would go with the fastest DDR2 that I could. I'll find you some right quick, brb....

no appreciable difference at all. As for the chips you guys are talking about, it's not important at all unless you need extremely high FSBs, ie. you are overclocking. Good chips overclock well, nothing more.

They also offer lower timings. If he runs that 1066MHz RAM at 800MHz, he can lower the timings considerably...

RAM underclocks. 1066MHz RAM will run at 800MHz.... One major advantage to doing this is that you can lower the timings well below 5-5-5-15...

In that case, the 1066MHz RAM will run cooler and last longer ;)

Sure. And since it's rated for higher speeds, it'll run cooler and last longer than 800MHz RAM....

You're not listening. Ram can downclock. Chances are your mobo will do it by itself, so you don't have to worry. Even if it doesn't do it automaticly, you can just lower the timings in the bios.

Yes, and timings dont affect real world performance at ALL. Google it for some benchmarks!

That 1066 ram LaForge linked to can run at 1066, 1000, 900, 800, ANY speed you need it to run, below 1066. If your FSB is 1600mhz then your memory should run at 800mhz etc.. All you need to know is set the memory divider to 1:1.

The lower the timings (latency), the faster the RAM works. It's like overclocking the RAM.... If it doesn't improve gaming performance, then why do people do it?

Looks like an impact to me... if you underclock the clock speed, or if you overheat the RAM, then it probably will run a little slower...

Congrats, I'm glad it worked out better. I figured Kingston would've had better quality control...
