How do you think it would run these games? What resolution? Estimates?

AvP (new one)

I recommend you buy this 5870 right now 'cause the pormo code that makes it only $351 will expire after today. Seriously, 2 hours and its gone. To answer the question, yes. Buying this card now will either give you some leftover cash or will allow you to get the parts you want that were otherwise too costly. Whatever you decide, good luck. :)

To answer your question now, a $1000 rig should be able to Max every game on that list at a reasonable resolution. I would part it out but I'm going to bed soon, if you can hold off until tomorrow I can maybe put something together.

I am not sure if can build an AMAZING gaming system with 1000$... I built one last week with 1200$ and it can max out everything at 1900X1024

Consider these :

GPU : ATi Radeon ASUS EAH5850 DirectCU

CPU : AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 Ghz

Mobo : Gigabyte GA-790FXTA UD5

Ram : OCZ 2X2 (4Gb) 1600 Mhz

I dunno what you are searching for (Intel, AMD...) but the system above can max out everything without overclocking it.

If you're ever on a budget, go with amd/ati. It's cost-effective and - for the price - gives you amazing performance.

The case is up to you. If you want red leds, go with that case that i listed; but if you want blue leds, go with the CM690 II

He might need a copy of Windows as well. No reason to spend $90 on a case, when you're trying to fit into a budget. Antec's $40-$50 cases would do just fine. And I would go for the Phenom II 955 instead, since the extra 200MHz doesn't make much difference in games, and its $40 cheaper. You could probably skim $20-$30 off the motherboard price if you looked around for something else as well.

yes, he might need a copy of windows. that's the annoying part when someone asks for help, they never tell you what they need/have. he might even need a monitor as well, so we know what resolution he'll be playing at... we don't know, lol

Nice. I am actually looking into building a gaming desktop. I've never built one and this would be my first. I didn't know how much money to set aside so I planned setting aside $1500. Would the results look incredible with this setup you recommended. I'm not exactly pinching pennies here. I'll spend what I have to. I just want a top of the line setup. I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

While that seems like a good deal now, it won't be such when upgrade time rolls around. No GPU is top of the line forever, and laptops almost gurantee you will need to replace the whole machine wants it becomes outdated.

Seriously...twice or three times the price for half the performance, and forget about upgrading. There's a place for laptops/notebooks/portable computers in general, but PC gaming is not one of them. Not when you have games out there that not even today's top-of-the-line desktop parts can run maxed-out and still retain 60 FPS minimum. (Then there's the preference for displays far larger than a mere 17", and other peripheral-related things...) I have games installed on my notebook, just because it can run them and I might want a quick fix away from home, but I leave the bulk of my gaming to a desktop for a reason.

To answer your question now, a $1000 rig should be able to Max every game on that list at a reasonable resolution. I would part it out but I'm going to bed soon, if you can hold off until tomorrow I can maybe put something together.General_X

you can do alot with a 1000.00. I only spent 700 on my rig and it was top of the line a few years ago. Just go to newegg or your local computer store and look for deals.

If I were to spend the most money I would spend it on a good GPU instead of a good CPU because having a good GPU will take alot of stress of the CPU. Also if you get a quad core cpu or higher they are best suited with 6 gb ram or more.

Nowadays PC games are being held back by consoles so there are not alot of exclusive games that push PC's to their limits except the ones that have support all the latest direct x's.

The human body is totally offensive, but talking about games where bloody, gory murder is the norm is perfectly okay! What a messed-up society we live in...
