You would be able to run quite a bunch of games, some new games if you can live with low framerates and low graphics, I'd say it's a no go on crysis but COD4 would work just fine on that system

ventnor
Just fine? I highly doubt running the game at 800 x 600 on low settings @ ~10-20 fps is what he is looking for. It looks terrible on low settings... heck, it looks terrible maxed out. That Celeron Processor and lack of any form of dedicated GPU or even an integrated nVidia or ATi chip is a bad combination for anything other than daily tasks or older (pre 2002-ish) games.

The only CoD he could run "just fine" on an Intel GMA is the original CoD.

Hah! I used to run Call of Duty 4 on the following (and that was maxed) 1.6 Ghz singlecore CPU. 512 MB RAM and a HD 2600 Pro, I had constant 30+ FPS that game isn't demanding at all

Edit: Blargh I read it as a HD 4500

His: Intel GMA 4500MHD vs Yours: HD 2600 Pro... absolutely not in the same league! I can even say that HD 2600 Pro is MILES better than any Intel GMA chip!

Edit: Caught your edit now, lol. Now break the news to him gently.

Running anything more demanding than Half Life 2 on that would kill it, I've had a similar system, and had to pretty much mod every single game I played to get at least 20FPS+

And the other thing is your processor is(please don't be offended) horrible. Don't worry though, just get a new computer(based on those specs you have a laptop, so you might want to get into a proper PC).

As for what you can run, well I'll make it simple. Games with the Half Life Engine, Unreal Engine, Doom 3 iD Engine and maybe the original Crytek engine should run.

I assumed you wouldn't want to play on the absolute lowest quality in the games since most look terrible. In that case you can probably play some 2005-ish games on the absolute lowest, but anything newer than that on low can really start to overheat your computer and may even damage it.

Uhhh no way can he ever run Crysis. Crysis runs with 4-5FPS on the lowest possible settings on a laptop with a better processor than that, and COD4 is barely playable on lowest settings.

Yet he has a Intel graphics chip which is way worse than a HD 2600, I think you misread it like I did.

Stay away from the Celery. The Celeron is a gimped chip. Stay away from integrated graphics. It sucks the motherboard resources.

You buy that cheap junk you will be sorry. Save your money. Wait till you can afford a real dual core intel processor. Make sure it has a graphics card. Make sure it says at least 256mb of graphics memory. 3 or 4 Gb of ram. No need for more than that at this time. Hard drives are big enough already. 320Gb is fine. Everything else comes standard with todays laptops.

Having HDMI is awesome if you have a flat screen lcd or led tv. It means you can hook up your laptop to your "big screen tv". I love that.

Consider your laptop an investment. Your not buying a bowl of soup. If you buy the cheapest now to save some money, you're going to live with tasting that rancid soup for a very long time, til you can afford to buy a decent bowl of soup at least.

My advice is don't pull the trigger till you can afford a "gamer ****" laptop. Anything less will just waste your money.

Almost every game you guys are mentioning would require at least any dedicated cheap gpu. This is an onboard system with a really bad processor. I doubt it could run anything post 2002 with a playable framerate.

you could play morrowind and a great deal of early 2000, late 90's FPSs. that alone should give you at least a partial amount of a 'fix' for pc gaming.

:| According to this you are supposed to get less than one frame per second on lowest settings :|

Not saying you are lying or anything, but it's weird, really weird.

You paid 350£ for that? You've been ripped off, badly. and no, don't ever invest into alienware, it's again a ripoff. If you really have to game on a laptop get an Acer.
