These are the basics of my rig:

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146025

mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131319

CPU: (quadecord yorkfield) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115041

And an ATI 4870 (1x) GPU

Could you guys recommend me a heat sink? Or would the stock heatsink be good enough, I'm not planning on overclocking.

Do you find those complaints of cheep pushpins that sometimes break and the cooler being oversized, valid?

hmm the pins no, the oversized part I do find valid. I had to move one of my fans to make room for it, but besides the size I found it to do a very good job for the price.

okay good, if you can tell, do you think I'll need to do that (bolded) in my case?

Nope, with that case the heatsink will fit in fine without having to re-arrange anything. Another plus is not having to remove the mobo to install it, but that doesn't really affect you seeing as you will be building from the ground up anyways it seems.

I just completed a new system build using the same case (NZXT Apollo) as you. I installed a Zalman CNPS9700 w/ 110mm led fan and speed controller, using a Gigabyte X-48-DS4 and it fit just fine in the case, even with a 900w PSU. I don't know how well the Zalman would fit on your MB, because it is quite large and may pose a problem with the way the heat-sinks are laid out on your ASUS board. But Zalman also makes a smaller version (CNPS 9500) w/ a 92mm led fan, which I have running in my system listed in the sig below.......they work great and are near silent.

wait... the CNPS 9500? I checked on newegg and it doesn't say it's compatible with any intel CPU's.

If the northbridge heatsink doesn't get in the way, you might just be able to mount a Sunbeamtech Core-Contact Freezer. It's quite a good HSF for the money-certainly much better than stock Intel HSFs in my experience, and many Internet reviewers say that it gets temps equal or better than a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme while costing less. Order links: Newegg, FrozenCPU, Heatsink Factory, Xoxide
