I've never actually played it. I wish they did a free trial like they did with TF2 and DoD.bangell99
They did in the first 2-3 years of release. I'd say just get it: Last I checked it was 50% off at the moment and it's generally considered the best online FPS.

Even better than TF2? I seriously doubt that.

It's a completely different type of game. Counter-Strike has been around much longer, has a much larger fanbase, so it's going to be considered better by more people. They're both good although I personally think there are games that do what Counter-Strike does better, but that's my personal opinion.

Such as? Not trying to start an argument here (since people seem so sensitive lately), just curious which games you are talking about.

Well for a fast-paced hectic FPS, I would go with COD4 over CS:S. If I want a team-based co-operative game, I'll go with TF2 or BF2. I really don't think CS:S is good for anything but it's legacy at this point.

Well I see what you're saying, but to be fair, CS:S is just one game doing both fast-paced hectic FPS and team-based gameplay. I mean, yeah you can pick a game that's specialized in one particular aspect and say that its execution of that gameplay aspect is better than CS:S', but I think the reason why CS:S is so popular is because it does so many things, and so well. For example, we can talk about skill. One of the main draws of CS:S is that it takes so much skill, and it's very satisfying to get better at the game. But then we can also talk about how fast-paced it is. Or how well teamwork can payoff. In short, I think CS:S is so popular because it is better than the sum of its parts.
cs 1.6 , css and bf2 are the greatest online fps's to have ever existed.
cod4 is some trash especially with all the spawn killing. tf2 isn't fast paced enough and there is no incentive to be a sniper, its just a game you play to get a good laugh. i personally like cs 1.6 better than css but if you're new to counter strike it will take you weeks to get good on source and months/years to get good on 1.6 because only the pros play 1.6 and thats a fact.

I'd say so. CS:S is just online gaming magic. I haven't played any online game more. I get burned out on TF2 way too often. So do other people I assume.
