Counterstrike - 1.6 vs Source

The difference between games is only marginal and I question those who say that 1.6 is much better because it supposedly requires more skill. I think it is just a matter of personal taste. I prefer source for the looks, but of course that doesn't mean a heck of a lot when you get into serious playing.

The general consensus is that the Counter-Strike community is full of whiners, griefers, and ragers. Believe me, they'll find a reason to gripe and insult each other over anything. 1.6 players think that Source players all have inferior skills. Source players think that 1.6 players are all hackers. Anytime somebody dies in Counter-Strike, it's because of lag, or the game glitched, or the other person is cheating or using "noob tactics". Seriously, the community is full of immature brats who seem to like having a bad time better than having a good one.

In other words, don't listen to their opinion, just stick with your own.

My opinion is that both Source and 1.6 are great games, and whatever game somebody likes better is the one they should play. For me personally though, that would be Source, as playing the game on the new engine feels better and more solid to me, and games seem to flow smoother overall (although I have no scientific evidence to support that theory, it's just a feeling I get). The so-called "required skill" is the same.

They are largely the same, CS: S is just more "refined" than 1.6 (smoother gameplay, better graphics, etc.).

I don't see why the CS community gets such a bad wrap, certainly the hardcore players can be hard bunch to please but same goes with every game in existence.

Most of the players I run into in CS seem to be older and a lot more relaxed than your average CoD player who rages when they get killed by a tube or whatever.

Sounds like you just need to find a better server.

I liked 1.6 better, I haven't play CS:S or 1.6 in a good long while, but I remember when CS:S came out, players hit boxes would actually lead your character so people could kill you before you finished turning the corner and that crap got old REALLY quick.

All in all both games were fun, and you really need a better server.

Ya, if you can find a way to turn their hatred in on themselves it's ok. Just go in with a thick skin, much like a website that you dont ahve to log in to post.

I think 1.6 is better. The hit detection is far better than Counter-Strike: Source before and after the update.

Hard to say, despite being the same game they both play very differently.

What I didn't like about 1.6 is that bullets go through pretty much anything.

Ah fair enough then.

I should mention all my experience in CSS has been on Australian servers so I don't know what it's like in other countries. Plus all the kiddies seem to be kept in check by the jailbreak servers, they're pretty much like those fluorescent bug zapper things for CS.

1.6 is better overall. K ya source has nice graphics....thats it. The flashbang is stupid in source, it totaly paralyzes you where in 1.6 if you HAVE SOME SKILL and speed you can quickly turn around to avoid the flash and only be partially blinded.

The sound in 1.6 is fuller in my opinion, the weapons in source sound so weak, they should have just copied all the sounds over from 1.6

In 1.6 you can still manage to do some bunny hopping in source its even more difficult. Personally 1.3 was the best because back then you could bunny hop to you delight and it made the game more ATHLETIC as in it was harder to hit people and easier avoid being hit because you could jump around and to more tricks to avoid enemies. Is it me or does source seem even slower than 1.6 i mean the running speed of the player. I believe in 1.0 the walking speed was as fast as running which was great.

Source has slowed everything down. I am a " run and gun " type of player and in 1.6 you can still lead a rush from spawn avoid some flashes and still make a direct attack instead of camping ( in pubs) or even matches for that matter. In source with the flash bang and restrictive jumping, they just slowed the game down even more, its ridiculous.

source is a pretty strong game and 1.6 is responsible for that.. thing that the xbox got so i have to knock it for that much, i like many of the maps of 1.6 but at the same time prefer the game mechanics of source. they may not be better but i prefer them. i also prefer css for the fact that there are less idiots with free copies, hacks and exploits which can get on my nerves sooo much (me hate illegal copies of games and torrents in general)
