first of all, is directX 10 a big improvement from DirectX 9?? im thinking about getting windows xp cuz of all the hassles with vista but the only thing stopping me is directX 10..

how are dual 8600gt? in sli, do they run better than an 8800gt?

how is the 8800gt?? ive heard that it has a lot of overheating issues with the fan, whats the deal with this?? and what manufacturer is this specifically pertaining to??

and finally, which graphic card company for nvidia is the most reliable and displays excellent quality?? EVGA? BFG? XFX?

personally id go with xp pro, a single 8800gt, an sli mobo, a decent psu

a single 8800gt would be better than dual 8600gt's and you could always get another 8800 if you get an sli mobo

go with xp pro, most games the dx10 settings arent worth the fps hit and an 8800gt will struggle to pull all dx10 settings (so wont slied 8600s) a game like crysis you can just tweak the ini files and get dx10 visuals with dx9 performance

who told you it had serious problems with it?

evga, bfg, or xfx all make quality products, but in the end youll have to go with the one that is the best price/performance ratio

for example, its would be more worth it to get a 650 core for 299 then a 600 core for 269

i usually go with evga to be honest

and for crysis you can check out the tweak guide for it at tweakguides.com and or check out this link

a lot of people have been saying that the EVGA 8800gt superclocked has overheating problems with the fan.. such as it doesnt go above 30% efficiency or sometimes it just completely shuts off..

personally i was going to go with the EVGA 8800gt superclocked that comes with crysis on newegg whenever it came back in stock, but the overheating issues ive been seeing on the internet has been stopping me

DirectX 10 is a big improvement over DX9, sadly even the most powerful cards struggle when using dx10 in games. Im sticking with XP at the moment.

2 8600gt in sli wont outperform a 8800gt, 2 8600gts in sli wont outperform a single 8800gt

The 8800gt is an excellent card. Its true that some of them has overheating problems.

Those three make top quality cards, evga has the upper hand thanks to its step up program and lifetime warranty.

Id have to disagree. If your buying a dx10 card, get the software to utilize it. Get Vista 64 bit, 2-4 GB of ram, and an 8800GT from eVGA (my preference). Why evga? Step-Up program if u ever decided tog etanother card within 3 months, as well as a lifetime warranty and some of the best prices on products. Who can compete with that. My eVGA 8800GT is serving me well. I may even sell my P5KC and get a sli mobo with another 8800GT.

On Vista, i have 32 bit and my games are still running smooth. Im limited to only 3 GB of ram effective so im only using 2gb for the moment. Games are flawless. Crysis with playable frames at 1680x1050 High no AA (not needed). COD4 at 1680x1050 max EVERYTHING, getting 60+ FPS ONLINE. Dont buy XP. If you have a cd lieing around sure pick it up and use it, but if your purchasing one or the other, XP would be the fools choice.

if you are running high under crysis you arent getting dx10 features, dont argue with me on that one because ive researched this topic to death christ...lol

so no it isnt worth it to get vista unless you have slied gtx's or ultras in my opinion

DX10 is not needed right now, in fact there are tweaks for XP to get Crysis to look just like DX10. Plus the added headaches of Vista don't make it worth it at all.

yea i knwo that but who cares, crysis is just one game. What im saying is why pay for xp that is more at some vendors, when eventually you will have to buy vista. Vista gives pretty much the same performance in games so whats the problem. Get vista now, and invest in your future. Vista is well worth it.

I'd be worried about the future of your system if you went with XP and Direct X 9. B/c hardware will catch up with directx10 technology and then you'll been kicking yourself...then you'd have to upgrade to Vista to get full features.
