Sorry if this has been asked alot, but I just have a few questions.

I just bought the original and burning crusaid. Now, is the free 30 day membership included in the CD Key?

I was wondering if the cd key is the 30 day membership, because it came with 2 pieces of paper with "guest passes" good for 10 days each, I am wondering if those are actually the 30 days and they have only given me 2/3?

Also, if I buy the other 2 expansions and install them, are the latest patches on those discs so I wont have to download them, I heard there is all up like 10gb of patches to download, and because I am australian thats not only a long download, but a huge chuck out of my montly bandwidth.

Thanks guys.

There's 30 days of free playtime on the WoW CD key, the quest passes are just trial versions you can give out to friends.

To play the game you will need to update to the latest patch, it doesn't matter which expansions you have or don't have. You will still have the exact same game downloaded on your PC. Also don't install from the original disk, it's a waste of time. The fastest way if you don't have the cataclysm expansion is to download the installer from the WoW website, it will download roughly 14gb. If you're afraid of downloading you will sort of have to get the last two expansions and install from the cataclysm CD.

So if I buy cataclysm, I wont have to download any patches? Why is installing from the disc so slow?

Because it's extremely compressed, it should be like 28 GB or so, installed (but don't worry, 20 minutes or so beats hours of wasted bandwidth for absolutely nothing, so it's actually extremely fast to install it from the discs compared to downloading it and waiting for the same amount of time...) and yes, you will have to download some patches, because meanwhile, since Cataclysm was released, it received quite a few patches, but nothing major yet, not until 4.1 which is still being tested. If you get WotlK and Cataclysm, just uninstall WoW, register WotlK and Cataclysm on your B.net account and just install Cataclysm and let it update, will take less than 30 minutes.

It depends where you live and your internet situation if the internet is faster or if the disc option is faster. For you, I would recommend the discs.

Also, to answer your question, if you buy wrath and cataclysm and install them from the discs, you should not have to download very much. Cataclysm disc has a recent version on the disc. Keep in mind that Cataclysm requires all previous content installed. You cant skip expansions.

You are correct though that even if you just want to play the content you currently own and not buy all the expansions, you will have a massive amount of patching / downloading to do.

Yeah Im thinking of getting cata just to avoid the big patches.

I assume the original will have like 1.00 or something on it, whereas cata's disc is probably like 4.00 - meaning I dont think I will need to download 1.01-3.99 Thats my theory anyways.

Hey so what is my money actually going towards for paying for these discs? Am I paying just for the CD key, if these patches are giving me the expansions anyways, I just need to unlock them with the code.

You don't need to have the previous content installed, you just need to have them all registered on your account.

Ill head to the store tomorrow then and buy lich king and cata.

Was going to buy them down the line anyways, may as well do it now and avoid a huge download.

Hey also guys, when I register - will they want me to pay for the next month in advance?

Also, will my 30 days start counting down as soon as I put the originals cd key in?

The 30 days will activate once you register your original WoW key, since it includes those 30 days and no, you can choose to link your credit card and let it buy time automatically (you can cancel any time you want) or you can just skip that step and just register time with time cards (you can use game cards in your battle.net account).

Man I hope this game is going to be worth the cash.

Cata and lich king are going to cost me a fair penny. Ontop of the original and burning crusaid.

Then the $15 ill have to pay for membership.

Blizzard's games are worth it for the cases alone though. Im so used to the regular dvd cases - its so exciting to get a blizzard game. Their games are actually in boxes its so cool. Its probably their little trick, that they have employees worth on for hours to make the case look amazing - but it works.

I found some of the patches on bigpond gamearena - which is my ISP's game zone thing.

Any downloads from this section dont count towards my usage. So I wanted to know, do I have to download each individual patch, for example 1.01, 1.02, 1.03

Or Could I just download 1.03 and not have to do 1.01/2?

Also, so when I install cata, my version of WoW will be4.0.3a right? So I will only need to update from4.0.3a to whatever the curent version is?

Yep, you just start the launcher and it'll update from 4.0.3 as for the patches, they're something like "1.00 to 1.01", "1.01 to 1.10" etc and sometimes you'll find something like "1.XX to 1.20" anyway, getting patches for WoW is pretty hard and time consuming, you also have to be careful about the version (US/EU/etc) and certain websites might not have all the patches, the best way is to let it update itself, otherwise you'll need to track down every single patch in perfect order without skipping even a 2 mb hotfix on sites that might not use your bandwidth. Too much of a bother if you ask me, but of course, it beats having to buy the next expansions if your budget is tight and you want to avoid bandwidth usage.

Yeah I thought the same, screw it. Ill just buy lich king and cata.

Then I will instantly be on version 4.0.3 without downloading a single mb. Sounds good :)

So when I install all these expansions, are all the discs then going to be useless besides the one I will have to have in my pc to play the game? Seems like a waste of cash tbh, to install them and put them away until I need to install again oneday.

There has been a few patches since 4.0.3 so you will have a few mb to download but nothing much.

Nothing compared to like 15-25gb though if I just installed the original game and went from 1.00 Pretty much I am paying for these expansions so cata takes me to 4.03 without having to actually download from 1.00 to 4.03 Oh, does anyone know this question - I will re ask it. You only need the keys for anything except Cataclysm, you can also download them from battle.net after you register them, but you'll also download just Cataclysm if it's digital you prefer, so the answer is yes, even the Cataclysm disc, since it's one of the many games nowadays that don't need the disc to run.

Those serial numbers give you, Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms, TBC gives you new races and class combinations + adequate content, TBC zones in Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms, a new continent Outland, WotLK gives you a new continent Northrend and adequate content + a new class and Cataclysm gives you new content and new zones, new class combinations and new races, it also redesigned the entire 1-60 WoW (original) so, what you'll experience now is not how WoW used to be.

That was very helpful, thank you very much. Will alot of the content from the expansions be unreachable to me until I reach a certain level / point in the game? WoW must seem even bigger when you go from zero to the original + all the expansions, rather than playing since the original and slowly being introducted to the new content from the expansions. What do you guys think of the game? Worth the money every month?

You can go anywhere you like (almost, over 90% of the game) but let's just say you won't go very far :P you need a certain level and decent gear to be able to survive in higher level zones. Imo it's worth it especially if you like to explore, but it's not like you'll play it non stop, I usually play like 2 months then I take a break for 2 or 3 months but after this month I'll take a longer break, because Cataclysm redesigned all the classes and because of that PvP is a mess as for PvE, I have the worst DPS class in the game by far, paladin is still good as a tank and healer but I prefer to play as dps and they completely failed when they redesigned this aspect, they're working on it tho.

Yep, you will have to download a bit of content but the blizz downloader does pretty much everything fine. Now when my Uni firewall blocked the downloader, that was fun.

I am not going to actually notice the expansions though am I?

Like if i got into it back in 2006, and did everything in the game I would really notice new content. I think now I wont be able to tell the difference :(

If that makes sense.

You get 30 free days when you buy WoW. You have to install updates because the data on the discs is outdated. There is no avoiding dling updates.
