Hello, I came here because people have been willing to help me in the past with my compy problems.

So here's the deal, i'm running XP Pro SP2 on an intel E6420 processor. Everytime I turn on my computer it runs slow and my task manager says I'm running at ~95% load sometimes hitting 100 sometimes dipping to ~88. I've ran Spy-bot S&D, my NOD32 In-depth virus scanner, and a panda free online scanner. Nothing weird has come up, does anyone have any advice on how to fix the problem?

P.S. I am currently typing faster than the letter are appearing on the screen, this hasn't happened to me since Windows 3.1. Someone Please Help!!!!!

P.P.S Please don't tell me to reformat, that is a LAST RESORT.

Try running the scans in safe mode, sometimes they'll catch things better that way.

I just rebooted, and I currently have 42 processes and am running only NOD32 (anti-virus) and Mozilla Firefox to type this. And you guessesd it 100% CPU load and a very slow computer.

Oh, and give HijackThis a try. Just be careful what you delete.

Spot that process and google it. You'll probably have to disable that process permanently. To do so, Start/Run/ type "msconfig" and click on the Startup tab.

svchost.exe has 88%, there are four of this program, two under Network service and two under system, but only one of the system ones is at 88%, the other three are conspicuously at 0%

Should I end the process?

EDIT- So I ended it, and nothing bad happened and my CPU usage dropped to 11% and I can no longer type faster than my comp posts it.

scvhost or svchost? The former is possibly a virus, but the latter is a required system function.

svchost, definitely. If it's required, it's wierd that when i ended it nothing bad happened except my computer started to work again. (Which is FAR from bad lol)

It could be the Windows Automatic Updates process. link

Start/Run type services.msc then disable the Automatic Updates service

You'll just have to manually update Windows from now on

Go here: windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

You have to have the Automatic Updates and Background Intelligence Transfer services set to Automatic to do the updates. Once they're completed, you can disable again the Automatic Updates service like shown above. You can manually update Windows once per month.
