Hey, i just bought an aftermarket cooler for my CPU and am wondering if the two 120mm fans that are on the heatsink are to blow cold air in to cool the heatsink, or to blow outwards and blow the heat out?

Which heatsink did you have again? It's supposed to be moving the heat outwards away from the CPU and motherboard.

yea it pulls the heat off of the heatsink, so it blows the air out away from the cpu and mother board.

Man, I'm looking at pictures of that heatsink, and it is ridiculous! That think must cover all of the RAM. 2 120mm fans? That is so much airflow. I've got 2 120mm on my entire case, let alone on my heatsink.

Are you trying to push your CPU to the max? What are you running again?

So wait, is the fan suppose to blow air onto the heatsink or blow air to outside it and in my case? Like are the blades suppose to slant down or up when looking at it? Oh, and yes it is a Gemini II.

They should be blowing against the heatsink.

No way, they should be blowing away from the heatsink and CPU. They sit ontop of the heatsink, they shouldn't blow air down towards the motherboard.

exactly lke I said. They should be blowing against the heatsink. If theyre blowing against the heatinks, then the fans are cooling the heatsink.

Sorry, when you say against the heatsink it sounds like you're saying they should blow air directly onto it, not pull the air through it and blow it towards the side panel.

The Gemini is a downward cooler. So the 2x120mm on it, will be blowing the air through the heatsink and down towards the motherboard. If it was a tower cooler (Tuniq), then it blows it towards the back 120mm exhaust fan.

I meant through the heatsink when I said blowing the air against the heatsink

Who knows! I think it would be the other way. Any heatsink I've ever used has pulled air through the heatsink, through the fan, and out away from the CPU and mobo and towards the side or rear panel. Maybe you could save us the trouble of arguing, what does your manual say?

Nothing... the GeminII doesn't come with the fans, you have to buy them separately...

Well, I stand corrected. Check it out, on the gallery page, the second picture. I have always thought you want to get the hot air away from your components so you direct it towards an exhaust fan on your side or rear panel. Shows what I know.

Yea thats sounds about right... Well thanks for taking a look, now I can rest easy.. Also one more question, at the moment, I dont have a very good PSU (will be getting one in a week or so). Connecting multiple fans from on 4pin connecter from the PSU, would this hinder the performance of the fans at all? Just a question

For a while people were thinking that downward coolers would be better, cause it blasts air on the motherboard, RAM, Mosfets, etc. When tested it doesnt, infact the tower coolers provide better clocks and the hot air is vented out right away. The Gemini 2 is a sick cooler and SSJBen in our Union has one and his a product tester. Hes hit 3.6Ghz on his QX6800 with it and 2x2gb DDR2-800 RAM.

So how does SSJBen have it setup? Blowing at heatsink or at side casing?

no it wouldnt since the fans use such minimal power.

you know what, I have never used SpeedFan in my life. I used DFI for the past while and speedfan wasnt liking DFI that much, so I went with Everest. I know lots of people use it, so Im sure someone can help you there. I think speedfan will only recognize what is plugged into the motherboard.
