I overclocked my q9550 from 2.8ghz to 3.8, and everything works great, stable under load (prime95 for 6 hours), but HWMonitor and CPU-Z report that my multiplier is 6, not 8, giving me a 2.8ghz still... i set my FSB to 475, so 475x8 should be 3.8ghz... it performs better in games and such, and it says the "power on" frequency is 3.8, but everywhere i look it says its at 2.8 with multiplier of 6.... gah wtf is goin on?

If I'm not mistaken that means that you still have something called "speedstep" (or something like that) enabled in your bios. It's a feature on alot of Intel CPUs that drops the multiplier to make the CPU run at a lower speed when the extra grunt isn't needed. When the CPU comes under load, the system kicks the multiplier back up and you get your full 3.8ghz.

In that case I would go into your bios and disable it completely.

ok i did, and the problem is still happening. every time i go into my BIOS and change the multiplier from 6 to 8, and save it. then every time i restart or power it on and go into the bios, its back to 6! aaah. it wont stay at 8. performance has increased, but could that be from just the FSB being changed from 34=50 or whatever to 475? cuz that stays changed, but the multiplier doesnt. idk how to make the multiplier STAY at 8...
