I just build a new computer with a Q6600 with the stock heatsink and my CPU is running at like 60C. Should I fork up some extra cash for a new heatsink or did I do something wrong with installation.
I'm no expert by far but I have herd by some people that 60c isn't that bad at all.
At the moment mine is running around 60c as well and everthing seems to run just fine.
It does seem to make my room heat up a bit. Like right now my room is 80f.
During the day it is like 85f or more and so I have like 5 fans in my room on and the side of the pc off as well. At night I open up my windows to get some cooler air in and it does help some what but the pc does run warm but it is ok to me.
I have no more room in the pc to put a fan even if I wanted to.
The stock core 2 / quad sinks come with a paste already applied.
Did you use this without applying any of your own?
The stock heatsink is hard to mount incorrectly but i would still reseat it. I would also reccomend cleaning off the stock paste ( with a razor blade and alchohol ) and then applying some AS5 if you have some.
Also what are you using to read your temps? That chip has an 85tjunction so make sure you use software that matches it ( and not the newer 100tjunction reading )
