The idle temps for my Q9450 are 39-33-35-29 , according to Real Temp. Is this bad? I'm using the stock Intel Heat sink...

Oh yes, it's perfectly normal. PC's going up to 100 degrees celcius, can be a bit of a hazard, but most video cards can withstand temparatures up to 150 degrees celcius. I mean the PS2 power adaptor, you know that little rectangle ac adaptor, yah it gets to about 15 - 25 degrees celcius, if played for a long time, its normal as well. My PC sits at 30 when it is off, because of the flow of energy going through it. Silicon is made to withstand high temparatures, and thats what the standard base material is for all chip boards now is. all of the components will be fine if it hits 100 degrees, because the same goes for them as well. My PC never goes up to 65c it just stays around 45 - 62 when it's on. Your in the normal field. 5c, is the average car radio temp. 40 is the average low, low - medium, medium Temparature.

Those temperatures are normal for your CPU on stock cooling. Nothing to worry about until you start seeing 60+ degree temperatures.

Unless his chipboards are made of silicon, which 98% of the time there are made of silicon, 60c and up, is still normal, it's just that why it would do that is either your playing a really high graphic game at high, which is incredibly laggy, or you are working with graphics and other big stuff.

The only temparatures you should really be worried about is 65c - 90c. But all in all, your PC is safe :)

I wouldnt say its anything to worry about, my pc has been running at 40c idle for the last two years, and up to 70c on heavy load, and I've experienced absolutely no problems.
