First off, I'll just point out, this computer isn't for gaming, it is strictly for music production, but people on this forum seem a lot more knowledgeable than music ones. I have a self built (with a mate's help) computer that I use for music production, it currently has: 2 DVD Drives 3 Hard Drives And a mate is getting rid of his PC and getting a mac instead, so I've got it sitting in my hall ready to be taken apart. Will it be overkill if I take his hard drive and DVD drive, and will my motherboard be able to cope~? I'm not just doing it for the sake of it, I burn multiple cds off at the same time for semi-mass production stuff like promo mixtapes and burning tunes for djing. And hard drives are useful, one for programs, one for samples, one for temp. recording files, one for backup etc. My computer's specs are: AMD PHENOM II X4 630 2.8Ghz (I think) Biostar 8200e motherboard 4gb ram Nvidia Geforce 8200 450w PSU Any of your thoughts or advice would be great, cheers

Oh, and I'm also using 2 PCI slots for USB hub & wireless card, and PCI Express slot for firewire ports

Physical space will become a problem before running out of connectors.

You can attach them all just fine. Want more? Add an expansion card and add even more drives. Run out of the 26 drive letters? Mount them as NTFS folders.

Ok, that's fine, still got enough space in my case to fit them all, just don't know enough about power and processing comsumption to know whether it was gonna max out my computer

You should be fine. If I may ask, what kind of music are you making, and djing? Do you use FL studio, Logic or Ableton?

Short answer: Everything Long answer: Run club nights in Bristol that are Drum & Bass/Dubstep focused, so usually DJ minimal/techy drum & bass; Jubei, Rockwell kinda vibe, if that meas anything to anyone on here lol My first couple of releases were downtempo/drum & bass but current project is producing a hip hop LP with some local rappers/MCs I use Ableton rewired with Reason when making the actual music then Pro Tools when I'm in the studio. Most of my forthcoming stuff is strictly under wraps, but some of my old stuff is on here: http://soundcloud.com/Alexi

Ok, good to know. I don't know as much as I should, just get given random parts of computers free when people are upgrading and chuck them all into my case & hope they'll work. Only bit of my computer I've shelled out for are the cables and fans.

My audio interface, soundcard to most people USB apparently can't cope with 18 audio inputs/12 outputs at the same time Which sorta leads me onto a secondary question: I bought a Firewire PCIE card, but the company sent me just a normal PCI card instead, got a refund so it's OK but still got the card. So now I have 3 PCI cards I need to use; Firewire Port, Extra USB Ports & Wireless card, and only two PCI Slots, with one free PCIE card. What would you say the cheapest/most effecient way to fill the 2 PCI & 1 PCIE slots is?

Nice one mate, well if you're ever in the south of england and feel like a rave surrounded by a few thousand watts of subs, then give me a shout and I'll get you on the guestlist for one of our events.

If you are not already using your PCIe x1 slot, if your motherboard has that (I'm suggesting this because many have one of these), then a good solution might be this http://www.virtuavia.eu/shop/pci-express-to-pci-adapter-p29855.html I am a bit concerned as to how well it will mount and hold one of your expansion cards, it doesn't look like a lot of room.

A better link and explaination was found, it should hold the firewire card well though I wouldnt buy it from there.

To be honest, may just remove the wireless card, hardly use the internet on it anyway, then just wait and see what parts come my way in the near future.

Yeah, whatever works for you. I personally feel those adapters are overpriced for how cheap they appear. Its best to just get some parts that would fit right in with your mobo's slots. Enjoy those new HDDs and Disk Drives!
