The Witcher and Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines are the best two roleplaying games I've ever played.mfsa
yep, The witcher is better then mass effect, although wait for the enhanced version for the most polished experience.
Ok i am currently playing all and only FPS games and they're getting really boring. I need some new rpg game, can u suggest me one good? (it can also be a rts game but only if u dont know any good rpg games)1kalli1
What are your prior experiences with RPGs?
The Witcher and Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines are the best two roleplaying games I've ever played.mfsa
poor old vamp. that was the game that could have beaten Deus ex....it it wasnt released in an aplha testing stage and never fully fixed. loads of potential right there.
unfortunately it was released in a near broken state. so if u want to get vamp (and if ure tolerent of bugs then i would definately recommend it) then make sure u get the official and unofficial patches to provide the best possible experience. otherwise it will just frustrate, imho anyway.
witcher is a crackin game and well worth a play. wait for the enhanced edition though. this will be a fully patched up version. the patches will be made available online for ppl who already have it but u may as well save ureself the hassle. its due in may i think.
Deus ex 1 is also excellent (yes its an rpg, just in a FPS perspective). its my personal fav game of all time. its 10 quid on steam.

Vamp has been fixed ages ago, many community fixes. yes it was released in a bad state, it is good now. gothic 3 is another RPG that was a beat when released, thankfully, there have been 6 patches, the last one included all community fixes. It is a great RPG if you can get past the rough edges. So much potential wasted on rushed released. too bad.

Minority, how did the witcher get voted on gamespot and several other sites vote it the best RPG in 07 despite not having near the hype? Sorry, I am far from the minority. Mass Effect the best RPG ever? LOL, what a joke, not even the clear cut best in 07. It is good, but far from the best RPG ever. The witcher has more real mature, complex story changing decisons that drastically change the story, mass effect cannot hold a candle to the witcher in this aspect, sorry. Mass effect does nothing better then the witcher does, but the witcher does things better then mass effect does. Did u even play the witcher? I doubt it, as if u did u would realsie the witcher is an amzing game.

er...actually on almost every site Mass Effect was RPG GOTY (both editor's and user-voted) and on a few it was even GOTY, plus user score and critic's score for Mass Effect is higher than The Witcher's
Sure, The Witcher has more consiquence, though the dialog was very cheesy, but the main reason I prefer Mass Effect is that it's cinematic and more emotional (that's why my all time favourite game is Metal Gear Solid). And I wouldn't call The Witcher's story complex, Mass Effect's story was better. Don't get me wrong, I love The Witcher and is in my TOP 3 RPGs of all time, but Mass Effect is better

Obviously I played it, but mass effects story did not branch off in multiple directions based on your choices, Mass effect had a clea cut good bad, The witcher did not. As a pure rpg, the witcher is actually better. As far as mainstream sit awards? That is totally irrelevant, gamers actually voted for the witcher, that holds more crredence then biased game sites that are influenced by advertising dollars from console games.
also, sites like team xobox and xbox centric sites give every popular xbox game a 10/10, severaly warping review scores. Comparing review scores on different platforms from different editors with different expectations is pointless. Pc gamers have different expectations and standards fro RPG's then console games. Mass effect has nothing on the witcher. Both are good, but saying Mass effect is the best ever, when u can make a strong argument it isn't even the best of 07 is assinine.
Mass effect had a clea cut good bad
lepermessiah2
 this proves you haven't played it
BioWare got pass that good/evil thing, there's no such thing in Mass Effect. There's Good Neighbour and Ruthless (take any measures to complete your mission). You can't just join the bad guys like in KOTOR or kill your superiors. Complete your mission with any means necessary. It's more like good/grey. Actually it doesn't differs much from the Witcher's system
And the choices you make in the first game will have consequences in the next games
And it's not exactly a pure RPG (you can't costumize your name, face, class, background etc. YES I KNOW IT'S BASED ON A BOOK)

Dude, u don't even understand what i said, there is a clear cut good and bad ending, in the wicher everything is gray. Not too mention mass effect is terribly short the side missions add nothing to the game and are as generic as they come. The side palnets are generic fetch quests. even the side quests in the witcher have multiple outcomes, multiple ways to handle them and branch out. At the end there is still a clear cut bad and good side to choose, not so in the witcher, like I said, the side quests in mass effect pail in comparison as do the choices in the game. The only thin mass effect has on it is flashy graphics.
there is a clear cut good and bad ending
lepermessiah2
No there isn't, there's just one ending with different side consequences.
Sure, I agree that Mass Effect was shorter than the Witcher and that The Witcher's sidequests were a little better
There's NOTHING good/evil in the critical choices of Mass Effect

How is there anything good/evil when deciding weather to save the council (a few guys) and risking the whole battle (and millions of lives) ?
Save Ashley or Kaiden? Where's the good/evil in that? They were both on suicide missions, it's only a choice
Destroy a whole dangerous race or don't destroy them and risk future generations? They both look like grey options to me
Please tell me 1 option where there is a clear good/evil in Mass Effect
While in The Witcher there's sometimes a clear good/evil. Escort the woman and it's good , don't do it and she (of course) gets killed and it's clearly evil. Save the woman and it's good, don't do it (she dies) and it's evil, cure the werewolf it's good, kill him it's evil etc.

I never said The witcher has no clear cut good and evil at all, no game has none if u look at every quest, but in terms of main stroy and even side quests? The witcher does a MUCH, and I mean MUCh better job with this then masss Effect, or pretty much any RPG ever. The side planets and side quests in mass effect are a big let down. Some of the side quests in the witcher are deep fun, have multiple outcomes and ways to handle it. One such quest is the Blu eyes where you are tasked to rescue a girl from vampires, only to find out her life was miserable befiore and she wants no part of it, her brother she lives with ruined her life. what do you do? Let her stay as a vampire and believe she is not killing anyone, just feeding enoguh to live off? Another one is the witch u can save at the beginning, now she and the entire villaige that wants her dead have all done bad things, so do u let the villiage tear her aprt, despite they were into child kidnapping? Or do you save the girl who also did her share of bad bad deeds? These are just 2 examples of outstanding quests, and the witcher is full of them. Role playing at tis best.
U missed the point, i never said mas effect doesn't have some gray areas, it does, but, in terms of ending and which side u choose it does, and it does not drastically the main story like the witcher does based on your choices. In the witcher, no matter what side u choose, u are left with doubt if u made the right hoices, as any side can be seen as the right or wrong side.
The sidequests, yes, were better, but not the main quest. Mass Effect is faaar better in that area. The voice acting, the combat was all better in Mass Effect
Anyway, for me fantasy settings are getting boring and I prefer Sci-Fi a lot more

Some areas? In what areas ME is clearly good/evil? As I see it, Mass Effect has as many grey areas as the Witcher
Did you actually read the critical choices I said? They also "can be seen as the right or wrong side"
Are you sure you played it?

How was the main quest better in mass effect? No matter what u choose in mass effect, it does not drasticaly change the main story like the witcher. The story in the witcher is also as well told. The main quest decisions are not near as effected like it is in the witcher. are u sure u played the witcher properly? Mass effect has some gray areas yes, but the main story does not change much, especially compared to the witcher, which is torally different depending on how u role play.
Combat better? U mean the bad Ai and controls for squad mates? I liked the witchers unique combat much better. It is different and requires constant attention and timing.

I already told you that I agree that The Witcher has more consiquences, but Mass Effect is a lot more emotional and cinematic and the main quest is much more exiting and better told
The Witcher felt like I was playing a MUCH better and improved version of NwN 2
The AI was just as bad as The Witcher's. And don't get me started on problems the Witcher had. The Witcher is getting a Enhanced version and Mass Effect a PC version, meaning the problems in both games will be fixed, so we'll rule those out.
The Witcher's combat was wierd and lacked bow combat (but unfortunately witchers can only use swords), while ME's combat was better because it was a shooter and had the ability to give commands to party members ( KOTOR+GRAW=The Perfect Game )

Being a shooter does not automatically make combat better. Shooting in an RPG is not a positive trait necessary. The squad commands in teh 360 version were terible. How was the combat weird? You had to use combos, you could jump, use bombs, signs, a lot of variety, and all very unique. mass effect was the same click, wait click mechanic, with nad team mate AI and bad swuad controls (As mentioned in many reviews). The fact is, u can make a very strong argument that Mass Effect is NOT better then the witcher, as proof by out back and forth here.
NWN2? What? They are total opposites, NWN2 is strict Point and click party based RPG with D@D rules. I will pretend I never readt that.
The witchers story was every bit a sgoos, especially how what u do shapes how the stroy goes.
Bow use? The witcher is based on novels, where the Witchers only use swords, only adds to the lore and realism. Bow combat is rarely good in RPG's as it is, very few games ever do it right.

 (BTW, I still don't beleive you that you've played Mass Effect)
ME's combat was a lot more variable
Signs=Biotic Powers (And Biotics were much much better)
Mass Effect had bombs too
Plus, the tech options add a lot of variety
And in a lot of reviews it was said that The Witcher's combat was very repetative
The Witcher had realism!? Yeah, it's very realist that Geralt could sleep with almost every woman in the game. And Mass Effect also has a lot of lore (there's also a book)
Anyway, it's just a matter of personal taste, so there's no right or wrong opinion. I agree that The Witcher is more of a true RPG than mass effect (but it's not exactly a pure RPG since you can't costumize your name, face, clas, background etc. while in ME you can), but Mass Effect's setting, main quest story and presentation are far better. ME felt like a movie and it was exiting and thrilling, the Witcher didn't have that feeling
Books, movies, games are all determined which are better by awards and ME has a lot more than the witcher, but not everyone agrees with the awards, it's just a matter of personal taste

:D Exactly
Add the character of Jack Bauer (a guy that breaks the rules and sacrifices), the cinematic and emotional scenes of MGS (though MGS is still better), the role playing elements of KOTOR, the ability to give commands to squad memebers like in GRAW, magic/the force (biotic powers) and you get a nearly perfect game: Mass Effect
The 360 version is buggy and the controls aren't very good, but they'll be fixed in the PC version and the PC version will be a LOT better (because of mods, mouse+keyboard, patches, graphics etc.)

Damn, now you got me all hyped up! :P
