I'm lookin to buy a 20.1" LCD widescreen moniter (haven't found a good one yet, open to suggestions) and I'm trying to figure out what to do with my old 17" (15.9 viewable) CRT. Then I got the idea: Why throw it away? My 8800GTS has 2 dvi ports, why not just hook them both up? Lol that would the most stupid setup ever. a 17" 4:3 CRT next to a 20.1" 16:10 LCD. Thoughts/comments/criticisms?

put it in the garage or use it for a second computer... i never throw away old monitors because they are unique in that they dont become outdated as quickly as other pc hardware. I had an old 15'' crt from a computer my parents bought for me in 1992 and put it in storage until i ran into an old Pentium 3 machine that someone gave me. This monitor works perfectly after being in storage for about 8 years or so... although its not as bright and clear as newer ones, it works fine

DUDE! I SHOULD PUSH IT TO THE LIMITS! 150MHZ REFRESH RATE! But seriously. Anyone ever tried something like that? I suppose I could use the widescreen for games, and have the other screen running AIM or other stuff that would normally require an ALT+Tab.

Of course you shouldn't throw it away. Use it for a secondary PC. I have Hitachi 19" CRT right next to my LCD. But I'm not using it since my older PC is busted. Sooner or later, I'll need to repair that PC. But never throw away things that still work. You'll regret it!

I say you should donate that mother. Maybe God will bless you for it someday.

On second thought, I'm never going to bless you for donating a monitor.

you laugh, but my bathroom is just on the other side of the wall my computer is next to. That plan is actually feasible.

Will anyone recommend a 20"/20.1" widescreen LCD for under $300?

Just an FYI for everyone, a computer monitor can contain six to eight pounds of lead. Never throw it in the trash, it is not safe at all. It some states in the US it is illegal to throw stuff like that away. Dual-monitors is always a sweet idea (I have a 19" widescreen and a regular 19"), but if you don't want it, why not give it to someone you know? I'm sure someone is using some crappy 15" somewhere and wouldn't mind an upgrade.

But i'ts still ok to dump it the river or lake cause the water just washes it away.

Not sure if that was sarcasm or not, but I hope it was. The river definitely won't wash it away.
