So in the latest firmware update for the zen, the player occasionally starts to a blank white screen, the WSoD. Until Creative acknowledges this and puts out another firware update, and without downgrading I have a quick fix:
So when the player starts to a white screen, lock the zen until the screen goes black (not dimmer, but fully black), and then unlock, you should now have a funcioning screen :)

This might not affect you straight away, but it took my player a while to start having the problem after I first got the firmware update (a while being a month or two), so if you have a zen with the latest firmware, you may want to take this into account for future reference.

I do appreciate the help, but in my case the player then stopped playing music and gave me a black screen that completely froze the player. On the plus side, once I hit the reset button (on/off switch was dead when I got the frozen black screen) it worked again at power on.

 I thought I was screwed - when my Zen fell out of my pocket and right into a bucket of water - I grabbed it as quick as I could but it was already full of water. I tried to dry it out over the next 2 days, including setting it in a bowl of warmed rice (from another site regarding wet cell phones to possibly restore their functionality) However, I was only able to get the white screen. I could tell that the songs and memory I'd had on it was still there, from hooking it to my pc and viewing the files - but no way of knowing what files I was choosing if trying to get them thru the zen only. I searched and found your post....I kept trying to get it to restore the screen and finally - when I turned it on but as SOON as the screen started to turn white, I slid the button to LOCK, then to my amazement, the screen turned black as you said and then when I switched it back off, the Creative Zen logo appeared. I was SO ecstatic that I didn't have to buy another zen. (I'd already replaced it just a few months ago when I inadvertently threw it away with the trash - go figure, I know I seem like a mindless bafoon...oh well) THANK YOU so much for your post....it works fine now and I'm thrilled!:D
