hey all. i built this pc not long back but was concidering crossfireing my 7970 since i believe my single graphics card struggles with everything maxed on crysis and everything maxed out on the witcher 2 (inc uber) is horribly laggy. i know i could simply drop the settings down but i like the eye candy and can afford the upgrade. i also want to be prepared for anything coming out in the near future. i run intel core i7-2600k cpu @ 3.40 GHz, 16gb ram and AMD 7970 graphics card. What are you opinions? Should i crossfire or is there more cost effective solutions? I am expecting that if i crossifre i should b right for crysis 3 ect, or am i overestimting my machine? I dont know alot about hardware so rely entirely on other peoples opinion in this field. Thankyou

I have a 7970 and a i5 2500k and my rig chews maxed out crysis and spits it out, have no trouble running the game at all, so maybe your GPU is not the culprit.

and i believe you would be wasting money, as there isn't really any game a 7970 couldn't run maxed out for the foreseeable future. i don't think you should upgrade until next gen comes out, thats when the devs will begin to push the hardware a bit more.

What? 0.o? I have Crysis 2 super uber heavily modded up and I always get above 60fps @ 1080p with GPU usage under 85% always. That is a single card too.

Indeed. I wasn't having any issues with running those same games on high to max settings, and my cpu(fx6100) and gpu(6870) are far below the performance of his two pieces of hardware. I'm running @ 1920x1080 though.

Maybe learn to read the topic rather than jumping in boasting and recommending he do something that makes no sense.

for crysis the 7970 is actually faster than the 680 gtx. Check your drivers are up to date and you'll be fine. Also overclock the card, the 7970 is massively underclocked at stock.

Nope, your rig cannot max Witcher 2. You're gonna need at least another 7970 in there to do that, and even then I'm not sure it would be smooth.

It should play Crysis pretty well though.

how bout we learn not to jump down everyones throats like an **** always assuming the worst. sry if i misread the post where the freaking title is CROSSFIRE 7970's and is a little misleading. honestly i didnt devote alot of brain power to the post sorry if im a full time college student and also working full time and sometimes im not focusing too hard on an open forum. I was not boasting I was giving a point of reference so he should know relative to what performance he should expect and its kinda the main point for forums, to gain a census of others expereinces...

You sure about that? My 6990 couldn't even run it maxed at playable frames.

ya i love how ppl just ignore what were talking about actually maxing and claim crappy setups can do rediculous stuff. Sometimes it just takes one setting to kill FPS such as Ubersampling/Supersampling.

This may be a silly question, but you are running those games at the same resolution as your monitor correct? I know I had a crappy time with a couple of games that it was my own dumbass fault for not checking that.
