Yes CRT are brighter better etc

LCD's cost more etc but do look nice

But when people say that the 6 miliseconds response time matters while playing FPS's they are VERY wrong

1ms is One millionth of a second... really...

so in terms of gaming else your opponent is about 2km away and your sinping and he/she is travling at hundreds of km per hour and you can actually aim at something that fast then yes 7 ms would really hold you back...

But in terms of real FPS's we are talking about people that are moving just faster than walking speed and maybe running speed at max and who are at maybe 1.5 km away at max... so how far off are you really going to be put off by 7 ms lag... a pixel... well humm maybe not a pixel... maybe like 1000th of a pixel now your mouse cant even move less than a pixel so sort it out guys ok 7MS is nothing

and if you use that as an excuse for sucking when you go around your mates house to play games them maybe you shouldn't play games you noobs

for the brightness / contrast yeah there is a big differeance when it comes to a cheap LCD but if you spend like 365 on a LCD like the benq FP241W 24 as seen on ebuyer http://www.ebuyer.com/product/123982 the differeance in practice is near unseeable i must admit though you could buy a really good CRT for like £100 which the brightness etc would make the image seem a little better but come on look at that screen plus for people who dont have all the room in the world its much better

ah but no store will slel you a CRT anymore unless is at price to clear. furthermore LCD's are less bulky, idk about you but id hate to have to haul around my old 20" ibm crt to and from a lan party when my lcd fits in a suitcase. so basically CRT's have gone the way of 8-track and the betamax beaten out by convenience.

hehe. 1ms is one millisecond. one thousandth of a second. it's usually more like 10-30ms input lag, which is similar to that of an internet connection. it's just one of those things where the CRT is always going to be better, just because of how it works. no contest, an LCD will not be able to objectively match what it can do. LCD's are just more than good enough to where most of us won't care if the CRT's any better, because the LCD is all we need.

Yep and im loving it

but i did state that the size is nice at the end

and yes I do realize that they are very rear one is going on Amazon a 21 inch for £80 i must admit it would be nice to save the £300 i will be spending on the previously mentioned monitor… but LCD's just look 100 times better than CRT's and I am a very vain person it seams as I'm willing to spend this much… lol

and on ebuyer I cant find a screen with an ms above 7ms which the benQ is that 7ms one but thats because it uses a 8 bit panel rather than a 6 bit that replicates the colors needed for the 16 odd million colors which basically means true color because replicating colors doesn't work as well as having the true color and creates bleeding as well as some other problems

there's not really any official standard for measuring the response time, which is just how fast a pixel can change color. the input lag i'm talking about is how far behind the entire image is compared to what's 'actually' happening, which is a totally different thing. you can probably google for input lag videos to see what i mean.

My main gripe with LCD monitors is that they only look good in their native resolution, which DRASTICALLY reduces your graphics scaling in games. I don't want to have to use 1280x1024 ALL the time. I want to be able to scale based on the game/desktop, which is only really possible on a CRT monitor. Quite frustrating.

In my case i can set the video card to scale everything and maintain aspect ratios, if you play at a lower res. the game should play in a box, not be stretched over the entire monitor. If not you can always play in windowed mode.

Yeah that is one option but a black box or a window isn't as good as full screen. I just wish I could scale my full screen LCD :(
