The Crucial is better overall, but 4GB is overkill right now and if you're running 32bit XP or Vista then it will only recognize 3.2GB anyway.

Crucial is better for overclocking and is also slightly faster (although you probably won't see the difference.)

I have the Crucial Ballistix and both sticks died on me just two days ago. They lasted just a few months and I had to run them at 800mhz. If you google you will realise it's happening to a lot of people. I got some cheap Kingston ram $35.00 for 2GB and they do the exact same thing.

Edit. I actually have the 2GB version. 4GB is an overkill and is slower.

Crucial discontinued the Ballistix? Since when? I have them and they are awesome! I would recommend Crucial over the G.Skill.

Did you contact Crucial, they will cross ship you a new set immediately. They have one of the best return policy's out there. They are the only company I can think of off the top of my head that I would rather deal with for a RMA than Newegg.

And I would be willing to bet the reason it seems to be happening so much more now than it used to be is how cheap they are, not quality, but with more people over all owning them, there will be a lot more people having problem, even with the same percentage of bad ones.

I think G. Skill is a good brand, but I strongly believe Crucial is better.

They died on Friday and they are not open on the weekend. I never had memory die on me before and 2 sticks at the same time is really strange. That made me think it was the motherboard having a problem.

Another thing Crucial has going for it: cheaper and easier to find.

Tighter timings will usually give you the better performance as long as the difference in mhz isn't too large. If the crucial wasn't getting that much negative feedback I'd say get the crucial. There are other 4gb configurations you can get that have lower timings for maybe about $15 more.

As for more memory being slower, and on vista, you've got to be kidding me. 4gb on vista x32 will perform better than 4gb on vista x64, even given the loss of not having the whole 4gb available on x32.

If you want Micron ICs (which you do) then go with Crucial. The Ballistix are going cheap these days too, so pick some up. You won't regret it, especially if overclocking is your flavor.
