thanks to the good people at rock paper shotgun. read this excellent, but depressing article.

Ugh.....:(
With Crysis having supported DX12, and Crysis 2 not even shipping with DX11 support, it's nothing short of a disgrace.
LOL
"Crysis, built in the CryEngine 2, was capable of a 32.2m pixel spread across a 12 joule range, displayed in a dynamically generated four-part volumetric resource buffer. This meant a broad spectrum resonance in the upper 40s, with significant occlusion."
As soon as they said this it was obvious they were just trolling.
Now that is bad....no, not Crysis 2, the article.
I don't know if they were serious or trying extremely hard to troll. They need this guy(he really underestimates the gravity of those events, RPS is just too seriousness)to solve their mind numbing problem, why Crysis 2 has less vegetation.
Crysis 2 is a console port, it doesn't stop being a console port because some people decided to ridicule the people critical of the game.
What are you talking about, did you read the article? it wasn't a "let's see what console gameplay features" Crysis 2 has. Besides the technical data being a complete joke for trying to prove the capability of CE 2 vs CE 3, they included something that is not only irrelevant but stupid. You obviously can't have a jungle in a city and yes the city was made to make things simple for them, but fact remains, city =/= jungle, of course there will be jungle mods for it, but to actually include something as stupid as this when they started to talk about really technical stuff...no, that's just a failure of an article.Crysis 2 is a console port, it doesn't stop being a console port because some people decided to ridicule the people critical of the game.

You do realize it is a joke article designed to ridicule PC gamers complaining about the technical side of Crysis 2?
Now THATS funny!
Anyways I think they should have made the article less obvious...the jargon they used sounded way too fake even if you really didn't know much about stuff like that.

jettpack
but its still funny.
yea i had a chuckle. im very dissapointed with crytek on their progress (or lack of) but the article was funny :P.Yet all the console fanboys will keep saying,"Making games multiplat doesn't affect the PC version at all..."
There you have it, suck it. This is why I'm completely opposed to taking PC games and making them into multiplat games, we always get screwed.
Too bad it actually ins't a console port.... It was made for PC along side the console versions, there was no porting involved. Consolized? absolutely, console port? no.Crysis 2 is a console port, it doesn't stop being a console port because some people decided to ridicule the people critical of the game.

Yes.
There is a mile of a difference between "console port" and "multiplatform." Those who are confused about the difference between the two should spend some time playing through the vast, tragic library of late 90's Playstation titles that came to the PC. Those are called console ports.

Well they could have fooled me, everything about ti wreaks of a console cut and paste.
Hell, I've seen console ports that felt less consolized than Crysis 2.

Which ones might I ask? Also, what makes Crysis 2 look like a port? It has consolized features, but nothing in the game makes it feel like a port. The performance is great, the controls work well on PC, and the game was obviously made with keyboard/mouse in mind. What exactly makes it feel like a port? Or have you not played the game? I'm assuming you have not.Surely you meant Crysis having supported "DX10?" Anyways, I'm over it. Crysis 2 still makes great use of just DX9. I don't think the DX11 patch, if it releases, will make much of a difference.Ugh.....:(

Most console ports scale the graphical assets depending on your settings. Meaning, minimum settings has worse textures than maximum settings. Crysis 2 didn't bother to do this. All graphical settings use the exact same textures, which 99% of the time; are identical to the console textures.
In fact, when a comparison of the different graphical settings are used, people discover that the differences are extremely minor. Practically, they just scaled the variables in the engine config files, like render distance of effects.
This is extremly, extremly, lazy. They couldn't be bothered to scale the game properly, when most console ports do at least offer this form of scalability. The only ones that don't, are considered lazy console cut and pastes with minimal effort put into them.
Also, what makes Crysis 2 look like a port? It has consolized features, but nothing in the game makes it feel like a port. What makes you say it "was obviously made with keyboard/mouse in mind"? I have seen no evidence of this.
Aim assist is on by default. Mouse smoothing is on by default, and cannot be disabled in game options. Lean has been automated in the game, making is less flexible than in Crysis 1 where you can use it anywhere, to free up buttons on a game pad.
I cannot find one single thing about the controls in Crysis 2 that suggest any PC accomodation whatsoever. They practically just took the game pad settings and mapped them onto keyboard and mouse.

Console ports consolized? That doesn't even make sense. Of course you're going to feel like Crysis 2 was "consolized." Crysis 1 was a full-fledged PC game that defined graphics technology.
Let's say Crysis 2 was a port, it's the best damn port I've ever played. Which it is not.

You would be surprised how many people dont get that they are making fun of the whiners.

Elann2008
Consolized because of the obvious console orientation compared to its PC orientated predecessor, and a port because I cannot find anything about this game that suggests it ever had PC in mind during development. The only footnote, the small print, that the PC version was given so much as a thought, was they bothered to use higher res versions of a handful of minor textures (logos, text, blood spills).
Let's say Crysis 2 was a port, it's the best damn port I've ever played. Which it is not.

Everything I described earlier points to it being a poor port. Whether or not you enjoy the game itself, is not a indication that they didn't just copy/pasted from the console version.
