so, my rig is as follows:

Intel Core 2 DUO E8500 @ 3.7ghz

OCz PC2-6400 800mhz platinum ram 4gb (2x2gb)

WIndows 7 x64

Sapphire HD5870 Vapor-X (900/1300)

Seagate 650w black psu (or something...)

can anyone tell me why, i can run BFBC2 in DX11 mode, with 55 fps or more(19x12), but when i start up crysis 2 with the Dx11 patch installed aswell as the highres textures i get 13 fps avg(also 19x12, but even in any other res its still choppy as F**k) . i have the proper drivers, rig works fine in any other game, but now for some reason it seems crytek has made the performance of an amazingly optimized game worse than a home made porn video. can anybody help me out?

PS - i cannot upgrade, cuz im broke and my parts are out of the return date so i cannot replace any parts either

That it does. Jumps right up to 1.5gb with my 480's.

What you call amazingly optimized was just cutting corners with low res textures and blurry image.

You all wanted high resolution textures, you got them. They weren't kidding around with this game.

The game is still well optimized. It uses your entire GPU (not just 40% of it like the original) and with the tessellations it has nearly doubled the amount of polygons being rendered. Throw in the new SSAO lighting, the advanced motion blur, the changes to the HDR lighting, the particle density, the added shadows... what were you expecting it to do?

This wasn't a tiny change, the amount of detail in the environment is staggering now. Somehow even after all of these changes, it sill runs well. On my machine with a single GTX 470 I get 35-60fps now with everything on ultra at 1680x1050. This is crazy optimization considering how much they added.

yes but you see, my HD5870 OCd is equal to your GTX470 only the gmae was created on Nvidia hardware so you're bound to have massive preformance differences - same thing happened with the first game. so you sir can't help me out, if i had an nvidia card yes but i dont. - don't feel like breaking the bank

i expected the performance to drop from 60 in dx9 to something like 20-35 but its gone way lower, and its choppy. i have over 3 gigs of vram that i can use, but only 1gig dedicated i still dont see how it has gone so horrible

Actually that processor of yours is now starting to be a bottleneck. Tessellations require a lot more CPU power to render well. Graphics are still processed through the CPU before going onto the GPU. If you're CPU can't handle the new load requirements, you're going to see slowdown.

hdmi by any chance? Crysis 2 kept going to 24hz mode hooked up to my tv, I had to change a registry entry to keep it at 60hz and now it works fine on my 5850.

yes you're right there, there is a bottleneck but for the moment (with my overclock) its not so bad. thats why im baffled. a 6870 gets 40 fps average in this, while my more powerful 5870 is still sluggish. the slowdown shouldnt be anywhere near as drastic with such a small bottleneck..

as for HDMI no i use a DVI connection on my dell 24" U2410 i think

It's your parts; your processor and RAM are starting to bottleneck your rig.

i second that, your rig just isn't up to it. your running a dual core processor, with slow memory. you have a good gpu, but that's it. you need to upgrade if you want to run that game maxed out. my rig is a quad core phenom 965 OCed at 3.83ghz, 1800mhz ddr3 memory (OC), and i am also running a 5870. i run the game at 1920 x 1200 res in dx11 mode with most settings maxed. it runs very smoothly, but if i try to run with hd textures, it does get choppy because the 1gig of video memory on the 5870 is just not quite enough. i am debating on getting either a new 7970 and selling my 5870 to offset the cost, or a 6870 to run in crossfire x. if you want to run that game at it's best, you gotta spend the money. in my case i just need to upgrade the video card. in your case, you need a new rig if you wanna run things like this. that said, the game looks beautiful even without the hd textures.

That's bad. Even I get a framerate average around 30 fps with occasional drops to low-mid 20's and going up to as much as mid-upper 40's in spots, 1920x1080 Ultra across the board. My PC is lesser than yours.

Crysis 2 DX11-hires textures is the only game so far that can overheat my GTX 560 Ti (if I play for hours on end).

hmm, now that I upgraded my PC I may give Crysis 2 another run through with the HD textures and DX11. I've been looking for an excuse to play it again. that is if D2D kept my game when they moved to Gamefly. :P

EDIT: Oh sh*t. Old thread is old. I always forget to check the post dates.
