they were running the dx9 version on 7900 series before, I hope they go the HL2 route and optimize well just to let a wide audience get the crysis experience.

Crytec has optimized FarCry really well, hopefully they will do the same in this case.

According to Crytek, no current PC will be able to max it out completly, but they probably meant in some crazy resolution...

I don't think they will release information like that, that would do the opposite of what they are trying to achieve: to reach a bigger audience. Also, if they did release something like that, they wouldn't leave it so open-ended for potential customers to assume they won't be able to run it.

Have people already forgotten about the message from Crytek that an 8800GTX system with a decent processor and 2GB of RAM will be able to max it out quite easily at 2048xXXXX resolution?

They also never said that...

That was assumed since it was up and running great at CES at 2048x1536.

The head of the crytek development said there was "secret code" to make it so crysis "doesnt get old soon". I dont know exactly what he meant by that but im pretty sure a GTX will be able to easily run crysis because if a card that powerful cant max it out........well then they prolly either got a VERY over the top high end gfx margin or an incredibly high end low settings gfx.

Is it a trend for people to buy hardware for a game that's not even out yet? I personally wouldn't take that approach.

The game requires a 7900GT and 1.5GB RAM for optimum performance. So take a guess and ask yourself whether a 8800 is enough or not?

Yea remember that ATI touting the Radeon 9600Pro as the card for HL2 (it was sold with a coupon of the game at a certain point, more than one year before the game actually hit the shelves). Not that the R9600 was unable to play the game but there were better cards by that time.

That is not official, it is speculation. When Crytec gets to Beta status, we may start hearing more about system requirements.

i read an interview on thi one crysis site wit one of the lead designers and he said his 7800 gtx could max it out with solid fps and they said they are going to optimize it as much as they can so every one who could play far cry maxed will be able to play with more than decent settings on :D

Everyone also has to keep in mind that they are also trying to sell an engine along with the game. If Crysis runs sluggishly on a very decent system, not only will their game flop, but noone will license CryEngine2.
