I find it amazing how game devs like to squize every bit of cash out of the average pc gamer to get us buying a bunch of stuff that we dont need. What im talking about is that a large portion of the new computer games that have released are vista only games, I mean lets face it. Windows just cant stop at the video card upgrades, thing is they got to shove there crappy "new" OS down our throats. For instance, i've been waiting for 2 years to see the new game Crysis, and i was very pleased to know that the game will be available very soon on store shelves. Thing is i saw this and i flipped, knowing that even god knows that im not going to pay a couple hundred for an "upgraded" os[more like a crappy looking theme pack like the free one i got from some website].

Minimum Requirements

CPU: Athlon 64 3000+/Intel 2.8ghz

Graphics: Nvidia 6600/X800GTO (SM 2.0)

RAM: 768Mb/1Gb on Windows Vista

HDD: 6GB

Internet: 256k+

Optical Drive: DVD

Software: DX9.0c with Windows XP

Recommended Requirements

CPU: Dual-core CPU (Athlon X2/Pentium D)

Graphics: Nvidia 7800GTX/ATI X1800XT (SM 3.0) or DX10 equivalent

RAM: 1.5Gb

HDD: 6GB

Internet: 512k+ (128k+ upstream)

Optical Drive: DVD

Software: DX10 with Windows Vista

Thing is, u have to have the stupid thing to even run it on min. my rig can run about the recommended req but i cant run it at all thanks to microsoft.

You don't have XP? Crysis is optimized for both Xp and Vista, unless of course you're running on windows 2000 or something ancient you're out of luck.

"768Mb/1Gb on Windows Vista"

768MB ram on XP and 1GB on Vista is what it means.

NO SPECS HAVE BEEN RELEASE YET, and xp or vista will run it along with older computers, EA and Crytek, not MS and vista exclusive rubbish.

What he said, isn't that painfully obvious.

OPs such as this need to get their facts right before they start some BS thread.

Go back to school.

Those specs are not really bad at all. It's alot less than I thought it would be. I should have no problems.

1) Read above about it running on xp and vista

2) Ok, so it has pretty high system requirements... have you even seen the videos??? This is not a game designed to run on every computer out there, its designed to be something that looks absolutely incredible and has lots of fun and interesting gameplay things, like shooting down trees. You cant expect companies to constrict what their games do just so they can run on old computers.

And as for games being vista exclusive (not this one, but others)... you may not like it, but GET USED TO IT! Its gonna start happening (not just with microsoft products), not this year, maybe not even next year, but eventually.

The supposed minimal requirements are quite reasonable for a game that has as much potential graphical beauty as it does. A 6600 compared to an 8800GTS these days is like comparing the GeForce 2 to a 6600 back in the day when Far Cry was still young and Far Cry could run on a GF2, hell it'll run on Intel GMA 850, I would know, as it would run on my Tablet notebook which had that POS graphics processor.

I meet the recommended requirements quite easily, except the processor, since i'm stuck with this damn AGP & socket A mobo where you can put maximally AXP 3200+... Well, inabout eightmonths i'm gonna build whole new PC anyways, and that will max out Crysis without a problem.

i've got minimum required specs - i'm happy with that - and i'll get Vista when Crysis will be released

and BTW you'll probably need GeForce 8800GTX and 2Gb RAM to run it smoothly on max graphics - and i'm not surprised - what do you expect of best graphics game out there? - i'm so amazed by the graphics that i think it's like playing in a movie and not in game

Id say crysis is asking a little to less from our comps, most people that are up to speed will be able to play this game with flying colourers.

I don't think its too much for that kind of game, Crysis graphic is GREAT, I'm not surprised when reading it's requirements, I even think the spec will be higher than the minimum requirements, but who cares, I'm safe even for the recommended spec, glad to know bout it...:)

Well, thing is that game developers actually rely on the average gamer's system. If the average would be, say Core2Duo, Geforce 7600 and 1gig ram - we would see drastic changes to nearly every new game's system requirements.

What Crytek and some other companies are trying to do is tempt the gamers to upgrade their systems to be able to run their hot titles to the fullest, and of course the fact that they'll be able to implement even more demanding technology as the average gamer's PC is at such a high level that a majority of them would be able to use this technology for a better visual performance for example.

Crytek are not building their game based on the average gamer's computer - rather their own estimates for yielding the player an amazing experience mainly visually, but also gameplay-wise.

They are taking a huge risk doing this. If it goes as planned, they've gotten a lot of people interested by just showing off the visuals to make them to upgrade their PCs in order to play the game to it's fullest.

Not many developers are willing to take risks as Crytek does; that is one reason to why I kind of prefer them somehow over other popular developers.

Well price to pay for this. The more demanding the game they release the less sales they get since not everyone can dish out 1000-2000 for new computer.

I'm sure i can run this game at near max but i'll wait couple months after release to hear the complaints first :)

not at all, if you want to play a game and you can't you'll buy a better computer

i don't have uber computer to play Crysis on max graphics - i can play it on lowest but i don't care of graphics - the gameplay and the story are the most important for me and should be for most gamers

It's been said before, if you cannot handle PC gaming.............................buy a console.

I am going to assume you are a young gamer, what would you have done back in the day when we had to create out own bootdisks, send for patches in the mail, and bust our nuts trying to free up enough resident memory to get a game to run? All you have to do is save money and buy stuff. The advancement of PC gaming is not going to wait for you.

I think, with the current advancement in the gaming department and with no new console releases, if you can run crysis maxed you'll be fine for a VERY long time.

i find it hard to believe that the recommended video card is DX9 while the recommended OS is supporting DX10, XP will run this game in DX9 mode, and it will run it good. i still use XP, and from everything I hear, vista just make your computer run slower, and some current games have trouble running on vista.

LOL, I forgot about those programs. I remember my first Ram upgrade to 4mb, it was like $300 lol. It is a lot better than it used to be people, a LOT better. The technology back in the 90's advanced so fast you were upgrading twice in one year sometimes, how do you think overclocking came to be such a huge hobby? Because people could not keep up, you almost HAD to overclock. I remember everyone and their mother buying the malaysian Celeron 333a's to overclock.

If you're implying that you have to have Vista to run this, then you're wrong. Those with Windows Vista will have to have much steeper hardware requirements met than those with Windows XP (and I will most likely never upgrade to Vista unless I absolutely have to).

I, personally, will be fine with the hardware requirements. My game will run on medium at minimum...but if I'm not able to play on maximum, then I'll just learn the tweaks and do it that way.

Though the requirement aren't so high, what make them absurd to me is that so far Crytec (and Epic with their Unreal) keep saying this game will be highly optimized... MY ASS they are, with those minnimum requirements, it better run well!

WOW those are low specs, what are you crying about? Seriously have you seen how this game looks? I build a comp over a year and a half ago for 1500$ that can run this game maxed out at those supposed specs. A comp like that can be built for way less then a grand now days WITH Vista.

If you can't keep up go get a console and stop slowing down PC gaming development.

its not that demanding i might build a rig soon for $600-$700 and it should run the game on max in direct 9 and most people don't need to buy a new computer to play this game they can just spend $40 to add another gig of ram and $150 for a new card

I believe PC gaming needs games that are well optimized/scaled and have low system requirments in order to get more people into gaming, asking them to buy/built new rig is too much, especially when consoles are so much more friendly for playing with friends in the same room. Not all games should be like that but its nice that some are.

The reason Crysis dosen't scale thatwell could be because of the destructible environments, or for a variety of other reasons. However it does suk that more people will not get to enjoy this game reducing its sales. Look at the top selling Pc games for thelast month, all of them (WoW, Sims, WC3, SC, C&C3) require low specs.

I bought this build 4 months ago, and it cost me a total of $1738 at Fry's, including taxes, really long warranties, the OS, etc. It costs around $1000-$1300 nowdays. Keep in mind this is WITHOUT a screen or speakers. This is assuming yo got your own:

Case: Raidmax Smilodon + 500W PSU - $110

Mobo: Asus P5N32-SLI (its a 590 one) - $210

CPU: E6600 - $330

GPU: 8800 GTS 320 BFG - $320

RAM: Transcend 4-4-4-15 DDR2 800 - $60

New fans, hard drive, optical drives, card reader, and mouse and keyboard: $230

Quite affordable, and plays Crysis @ ultra.

You'll be fine. C2D exceeds reccomended requirements, no need to OC.

I think the requirements are pretty reasonable. Have even you seen the requirements on some poorly optimized Xbox360 ports?

I'm sorry but if you don't meet the minimum requirements for the game at this day and age then there is no right to complain. It's not like it's hard to meet those requirements. My old computer was slightly better than the min.

I don't always want to see games that don't push the envelope. Nice to have some but a game like Crysis it is expected to do so. Supreme Commander is also another one that pushing computers brutally.

Go upgrade your computer and don't complain

Well price to pay for this. The more demanding the game they release the less sales they get since not everyone can dish out 1000-2000 for new computer.

I'm sure i can run this game at near max but i'll wait couple months after release to hear the complaints first :)

not at all, if you want to play a game and you can't you'll buy a better computer

i don't have uber computer to play Crysis on max graphics - i can play it on lowest but i don't care of graphics - the gameplay and the story are the most important for me and should be for most gamers

HUH? That makes NO sense. Almost NO ONE will buy a new computer just to run one game. Why would you even say that? Infact, why would you even think about saying that?

A lot of people are planning to buy an Xbox 360 to play Halo 3, I see no reason why they wouldn't do the same for a highly anticipated PC game.

Exactly. I am also one of those people that will upgrade to play 1 game. I bought a $4k computer to play supreme commander. Also needed a new computer to replace my 4yr old system which meets the min requirements for crysis if those are inface what they turn out to be. My new one should won't have any problems with crysis and UT3, etc...

Whoever posted those reuqiurments if an idiot and should learn to read. Those are the reqierments for Bioshock. Crysis is supposedly very scalable and will work even on the nvidia 5 series and whatever the ati comparable card series is. Obviously this person is here just to be an idiot as they have no idea of what they are talking about. Leave the troll alone
