I bought Crysis from ebay, and noticed that when the installer gets going it asks me to choose a language. The languages listed are English (United Kingdom), Czech Republic's language, Portugese. What the hell?

Have those of you who purchased it in the United States have the same prompt when installing?

edit: How old are you people? No --- UK English is practically identical to American English. What's odd is the selection of languages given, since they are Eurocentric language versus North American languages, which usually just consists of French, Spanish and English -- not Czech and Portugese.

In other words, I was wondering if I had gotten ahold of European copy instead of a NA copy.

Yeah not to worry you'll be fine! The characters just have cockney accents instead, break for tea when the game reaches 3pm and in the cupboards you'll see packets of "crisps" instead of "chips".

So you only speak "American"? You do realise the rest of the world sees the UK version of the English language as the proper one?

Please, for the love of god don't tell me he thinks the language he is typing in is known as "American". If that is the case, I am afraid I have no choice, but to jump over a cliff in despair. On another note, some games do have a choice between "British English" and "American English" for people who are too mentally impaired to understand a slightly different variation (And, also the original variation) of their language

You are all attempting to be clever, but have completely lost the point of my post. Obviously the dubbs and subtitles will be identical. I am simply wondering if I was sent the European version, versus the North American version.

Ya guys dont be smartasses lol. After all, this is the gamespot forums, a place of civility and mutual respect.

It sounds like you got the European version. I am curious how you managed to do that in the US. So ya, I'd say they sold you the wrong version.

But dont fret, just remember to download European patches and not US patches.

Well where did you buy it from? If it was from eBay or something, that would be expected but from I retailer it would be rather strange. But as bojangles said, remember to download european patches or it could seriously mess up your game

The box/manual will tell you where it's from. I have bought a lot of european/UK versions from eBay and haven't had any trouble yet.

Cheers,

Why would a UK copy be more likely to be pirated..?? He said he bought it from ebay, when you buy it from ebay it has a high chance of being a european version... there is no problem, download EU patches.

Very first line in his post: "I bought Crysis from ebay."

Anyway, yeah, that sounds plausible. Could just have been someone from Europe who moved to NA and decided to sell their copy of Crysis on Ebay, or maybe someone in NA who bought their copy from a store like Gogamer or something and didn't realize they were getting an imported copy (so they sold it on Ebay to regain their money, making sure to get the NA version next time).

It's not pirated, as the cd-key that came with it allows me to play online. It did not come with the box, but instead came in a paper cd envelope along with the cdkey. It's not really a big deal, since I can play the game perfectly. However, in case someone is up for helping my curiosity, just pop in the cd and see what it says :P

Before anyone asks, I paid $25 for it. So I can't really complain :)

if you bought an UK version then it should look like this

http://www.game.co.uk/PC/Action/FirstPersonShooter/~r332618/Crysis-Special-Edition-GAME-Exclusive/

or if you got the standard then it should look like this.

really? Wow so I guess I can use the European patch of ArmA for version 1.0 on my stock US copy which is version 1.05? Golly thanks.

No, a patch is not a patch. If we are lucky, they only release two types of patches: one for North American version, and one for European version. If we are unlucky, then they have about a dozen different patches for a dozen different versions.

Whoever sold it got it bundled with a graphics card probably as thats how I got my copy, just comes in the sleeve with a cd key.

Look at the Crysis CD, if the CD has a 15 BBFC(red circle) rating on the right side of the disc its the UK version. If it doesn't have it, or maybe it has a PEGI rating, its from somewhere else in europe.

When the hell did I even suggest that the language was the issue? What's sad is your inability to extapolate the intention of my post. How about reading the thread?

Well than what is your problem? Either you dont know that English is the same in any country or that you dont realize that when it prompts you to pick a language... you pick a language and then it will install your game. Not every game needs to say English US as language option just because its being sold there.

Does it matter? And no you didnt... the game doesn't have a US version of english. Crytek is a European company, thats probably why the game doesnt have US as a language option...

Its just in that movie Crash: "Don't talk to me unless you speak American."
