Personally, I really don't like Window Vista at all. But, I really want to play Crysis in decent frame rates.

I am going to purchase a new pc for Crysis, but I need your help.

What kind of specs are you all running your crysis in?

Is there anyway that I can keep this sucker constantly in 30FPS with a decent resolution?

Ok First I'll post my specs and then tell you what I can run it at.

My Specs: Intel QX6700 Quadcore CPU 3.2GHZ, 4GB RAM (2X 2GB @667MHZ), 2x nVidia 768MB 8800GTX SLI, AGEIA 128MB PhysX Card, Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeMusic (D) soundcard, Windows XP, Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows Vista Ultimate x64, nVidia 680i SLI motherboard, 1000W PSU, and 2407WFP 24in Dell Monitor (1920x1200).

Let me start by saying that I dualboot os's so i'll post up specific specs for the games on each os.

Windos XP Specs: Let me start off by saying that on Windows XP you can not put the settings on Ultra High because XP does not support DX10. Now, I get 60fps with everything on high including motion blur with a resolution of 1920x1200 and with AA at 2x. I can lower the resolution to 1680x1050 and up the AA to 4x, but I don't want to.

Windows Vista: With all of Windows Vista visual stuff the game will certainly run slower. I can get 60fps if I put everything on HIGH except for Texture detail which I put to Ultra High with a resolution of 1920x1200 and AA off. If I lower the resolution then I can have AA at 2x.

Overall: I would recommend that with your new pc you get both Windows XP and Windows Vista. Try to get atleast 2gb of ram. Corsair Dominator would be really good. For the video cards try to get atleast 2 8600GT or if you have the cash certainly get better. You can buy a QX6600 Quadcore cpu for around $350. As for the monitor I would certainly not get one that exceeds 1680x1050. Try to get one that is 1440x900.

There is a mod that will allow windows XP users to put ULTRA HIGH on somethings and take advantage of some of the features

You still need a DX10 compatible card, but you dont need Vista to take advantage of it as originally thought.

Crysis will certainly push any system to it's limits, but at least from my experiences, it can be very playable assuming you're willing to lower just a few settings.

First off, here are my specifications. I built this system mid-January for roughly $1200, although prices have dropped some since. E8400 w/Arctic Freezer 7 cooler, 8800GTS 512MB (you might want to go with the 8800GT to save some money), Gigabyte P35-DS3L, Lite-on optical drive, Antec Nine Hundred case, PC Power and Cooling Silencer 610W, 4GB G.skill RAM, 500GB 7200.11 Seagate HDD, Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. I play with a monitor that has a native resolution of 1024 X 768.

With Crysis, I've found the game plays very well with all settings on high except shadows and sound on medium, and physics and post processing set to very high. This is all in DX10. I haven't played the game's later levels (where performance reportedly suffers), but so far I can run the game with very good frame rates at these settings, 30-40 on average, although it will dip to the low 20s occasionally but still looks excedingly smooth to me. If you were to install the game on Windows XP and use the very high hacks (see tweakguides.com) the game should run even better. Of course, this is assuming you have a well optimized system, use the latest drivers, 1.1 patch, etc.

Make sure you keep postproccessing on either low or medium, that's what really sucks up the performance. Don't know if it makes a difference with the new patch though, I've been playing a lot of other games, I need to finish everything I've bought!

Consider spending at least $2000 on hardware for your new pc, so that way you not just play crysis at high settings, you could also get a pc that will play future titles for a few years to come.

Where are you considering getting a pc?

You can achieve 30 frames if you have a moderately high end pc if you set all settings at medium.

$1000 is easily enough.

You can see my rig on my x-fire (scroll to the bottom). I'm able to play Crysis on high (shadows medium) on 1024x768 16xAF. My computer is about mid-range and I average around 25-30 FPS which is enough to have Crysis as playable.
