Is anyone else kickin around this forum considering buying, building or at the very least, upgrading their PC for this game? I have been out of the PC gaming loop for a while, but from what I have read this game is gonna murder current setups, so it looks like I'm gonna be building a new PC. Nothin' like spending 4 grand to play a game lol.

Im not worried about upgrading yet. I have Company of Heros, Suppreme Commander, Rainbow 6 Vegas, HL2, Fear, Stalker, Splinter Cell 4, and BF2. I play all the games maxed out with not a problem to report. My Specs AMD X2 4200 Oced 2.8GHz 7600 GT XXX Edition (x2 SLI) 2 Gig Ram Although i will not be able to play Crysis in DX10 mode I still feel that my set up will run it at med to high settings in DX9 mode

I am planning on building a whole new PC, although not just for Crysis, more for DX10 gaming in general. However, saying that Crysis will probably be my first DX10 game. :D I can't wait. lol

I took the plunge for Crysis and a couple of MMO's that are launching later this year. Went for a quad core with 4gig and 2x768 8800GT. It's blazing fast but sounds like a wind tunnel compared to my old one.

lol you dont need 4000 dollars, a nice mid-range 1200 dollar machine will run it just fine (core 2 duo, 7600 or 8600GT, 2GB memory, decent mobo, etc).

Still, if you have been out of the loop for a bit its gonna cost you a good amount to get back in.

I was happy to hear that the developers are really trying to optimize this game well so some of you may not have to worry about upgrading your rigs...depending on how old they are.

Ya, there is a site out there that has a unofficial "official" requirements assembled off of interviews the developers have had, and basically the game runs maxed out with a 7800GT with 1GB of memory, and it is supposed to run well with even a 6800 card.

I just got a 7950GT a few months back, I was sorta expecting Crysis to maybe run well on it, I have a 3800X2 and 2 GB of RAM also, new games run really well and I can max out most, older games seem to give me random performance issues at times though(Doom 3 and Quake 4 have random slowdown). But Crysis is new so I am hoping for good performance.

Only 1 gig?  Damn. I'll believe it when I see it. This game seems so damned graphically intensive that I wasn't even counting on 2 gigs doing the job maxed out.

I am upgrading for Crysis and many other games coming in the future. What really started it was my purchase of SPLINTER CELL: DOUBLE AGENT. My pc wont tolerate it. It is just sitting on a shelf waiting for me to get my income tax return so I can afford what needs to be done. I want to get the top video card by NVidia, a new motherboard to hold it, maximum main memory, and ofcoarse, upgrade the drivers. A friend wonders if I may also have to get a larger case. Hmmm. I had considered getting Vista as well. I am now favoring not getting it right away. I just haven't decided. One way to save a lot of money is to enter "no dependents" on your W-4. That way you're overtaxed. The effect this has it that instead of paying out money at tax time you get money back. At tax time you claim yourself and whomever else that is your dependent and  they send you the juice to buy stuff. I am getting massive amounts of money this year. Contact your job today and have them change the W-4 dependent listing to zero. By the way, it is legal. I am sure others have quicker ways to get money coming in but thie is one of many sure ways.

I used to just scrape by on hand me down parts and it never worried me but when I saw STALKER, Crysis and Bioshock coming up, I decided to put some money together for a new processor, graphics card and motherboard as an upgrade for it then when it was put together, I realised I was hooked to upgrading. I've spent about £2,000 so far. I'm addicted

mainly because some of the older games are better optimized for older machines, I max fear, but battlefield 2 gives me issues, anyways supposedly in dx9 mode the main dev maxed it on a 7800GTX

Tis true, you get more at end of the tax year with your tax method. However, think of this what if you had Uncle Sam take out less and you save the money in some type of interest earning account and then at tax time you take out the money and spend it. This way you earn interst on your money instead of the gov't earning money. With your method you are actually losing money. Now that is the way to make money. Let your money WORK for you!

I doubt I'll bother upgrading. My system should run the game well with two 7800 GT's, and I can live without the DX10 crap. Unless Crysis has some serious multiplayer, I doubt the game will be worth the investment for a new PC...

why are you upgrading now when crysis doesnt realease till end of the year or early next year when you could get the same hardware for half the price and get the same performance pc doesnt have anything demanding till next year anyway..

I have been upgrading over the past few months, turning my Dell into a new machine. I wasn't doing it for Crysis, even though it is my most awaited games.  The reason I'm upgrading is cuz my PC was (and kinda still is) sooo 2003.  I mean, my ATI X800 XL 256mb is NOT cutting it any more.  Oblivion only gets me on average 17 frames a second....lame.  It's getting really aggravating not being able to enjoy newer games (2006 and up).

Right now I have a Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz, X800 XL 256mb, 2Gb gaming RAM, a sweet NZXT case, and a failing 17'' LCD with blown pixels.  I'm so mad at ATI right now...I've been impatiently waiting for months for their X2900 XTX 1Gb card and it doesn't come till April 24th...WTF? It was supposed to be November, then January, then February 17th, then March 30th, now April 24th.

Boy will I be in heaven when I can pop in that card and eat my games alive :D

lol ive been slacking on the upgrading so im making a new pc with parts coming in the next few days:

Intel E6600 (2.4ghz)

2 gb Cosair Dominator 800 mhz

150 gb WD Raptor

EVGA GTS 8800 Superclocked 640mb

EVGA 680i

Although... when crysis comes out i might just grab another 2gb of ram and another 8800 to be safe... there goes my aspirations for a motorcycle... Although the crysis requirements might be just like STALKER where the early requirements weren't really what was needed for the final version.

Ya, unless the game has some longevity to it I cant justify getting a new rig for a game that will play for less than 20 hours.  I would sooner build myself a new rig for Counterstrike or WoW than Crysis I think.

I would rather have Hellgate London or Unreal Tournament 3 as my incentive to upgrade. I never completed Far Cry  (got bored) and will probably get bored with Crysis.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to upgrade my system at the end of this year, and Crysis is one of the main reasons.  My current system (geforce 6800 256 MB, 1 GB RAM, 3.0 GHz intel dual core processor, windows xp, 250 GB hd) can run games like Half-Life 2 and Quake IV, and even F.E.A.R. on high settings, but several games from 2006 (e.g. Company of Heroes) don't run as well.  The DX10 games will probably bring it to its knees.

For the upgrade, I'll probably go with a second gig of RAM, a second 250 GB hard drive, nvidia geforce 8600 ultra 512 MB, and Windows Vista Home Premium (upgrade).  Based on the current prices listed at newegg, the total should come out to something like $465.  I guess it's a lot, but I only upgrade once every two-three years.

At least wait until the game's released before upgrading for it. Honestly. People made that same mistake with Doom3 and HL2.

Well I'm not even dreaming of running Crysis maxed, and I'm certainly not gonna upgrade just for it. But if the other games that I've been expecting turn out to be good too(Bioshock, Alan Wake, Hellgate, Assassins Creed etc.), then I might sacrifice 300€ to upgrades, it should already get me a 7900GS and a dual core cpu, hopefully when the time comes, even something better. The times when I invested 4 number figures to PC are history for me.

the only problem is that you'll probably have 'again' a number of whinerz going on the forums saying crysis is the worst optimized game ever, crappiest coding i ever saw, it's this and that... you get the picture. people with sub-par PC or even decent one will whine for the only reason that the game doesn't run on max at a smooth 60FPS, i remember how farcry ran when i first got it, it ran on low but once i upgraded a little i was on smooth MAX

The thing is that If Crysis comes out within this year There will not be no Direct x 10 effects,SM 4 or very little work done. Because the game was made on windows xp and Geforce 7's a.k.a direct x 9. They said that they will upgrade and patch down the road months after the release. Crytek leaders said the game will run fine on 2-3 year old hardware. So dont worry If you can play FEAR, BF2 etc.. So even with 2 year old hardware would be 2.6-3.2 Ghz Cpu, 768mb-1gb of ram and a mid range geforce 6. Also they said that the game is very scable that you can choose the settings. The requirements shouldnt to be to high because they would loose money if they just target just the top 30% of gamers with top ended hardware. If you look at valve's system info of users using steam about 50% of users still use geforce 6's. It would be nice and if the game was coded as well as the source engine and could be because its taking a long time and better not have no bugs. Also the game could be a 7 hour one time flop, All flash and no substance in it. Dont Get sucked into the hype. But I hope its good.

One way to save a lot of money is to enter "no dependents" on your W-4. That way you're overtaxed. The effect this has it that instead of paying out money at tax time you get money back. That's what I do and I had to pay $1850 federal. Is it really legal to put "no dependents" on the W-4 but claim them at tax time?

I usually hear people complain when they can't smoothly run the game on high settings even when their system requirements surpass the recommended specs. I think that's a valid reason for complaining.

Know thyself..............I would never, never, never save any money. The interest I would save wouldn't be significant enough to me. It would slowly grow in an account picking up little bits of interest whick would be taxed each year and not really be worth having until years later. I get mass funds each and every year and I never, never, never pay at tax time. It works for this boy.

1gig vs 2gigs of ram makes a hardly noticable difference in almost all games. 2gigs vs 3 or 4 gigs is un-noticable, and un-needed. you can do fine for awhile in pc gaming with 1-2gigs of ram this generation

I guess it's a lot, but I only upgrade once every two-three years.

just to let you know they canceled the 8600 ultra, its now the gt or w/e. and some site got hold of one with beta drivers, and it's scores were...well lets say a little over half that of the 8800 GTS 320mb

I'm pretty sure i will be able to run Crysis with some good settings. Not too bothered about DX10.

[QUOTE="eilers_computer"]Im not worried about upgrading yet.

I wont be upgrading either.. just got a new PC around 6 months ago. Top of the range PC which runs everything on max. (2 gig of ram with a GeForce 7950). Not only does it all run on max, but i run my games in 2560 x 1600 on my 30" monitor. No point upgrading to Vista and DX10. While it is tempting, Crysis will still look amazing with DX9 and WinXP. The difference wont be as much as what everyone is making out.
