I recently purchased crysis I can run everything on high it looks good but... the gameplay is average, find it to be very repetitive, the story is lackluster... I really don't understand all the hype about this game. It seems to be a fair game maybe like a 7.0 /10 but does not deserve a 9.5 / 10 or game of the year. I have not played multiplayer or Warhead but nothing is making me want to. Does anyone else share the same opinions of the game as I do or is it just me?

This is exactly what I thought too.

I bought the Crysis Maximum edition for my new PC in May, and had been expecting The Second Coming - I was genuinely disappointed. If I were about twenty years younger I probably would have said that Crysis blows - or something like that.

I was expecting it to be ONLY pretty graphics, but I was blown away at how good the gameplay was. Everything I play thru Crysis I do it a differnt way and its a completely differnt experience for me.

For me its definatly a very well rounded game in all aspects. The only thing that wasnt top notch was the story.... but I found the gameplay, graphics, atmosphere and sound to been top notch.

Maybe keep playing it and trying differnt strategys? I know it took me awhile to apprecaite Crysis gameplay, but everyone is differnt and has there own opinions.

I agree with you about the story, but repetative? HELL NO! Its totally differnt each time I play it. There are so many options on how to play and get thru Crysis imo.

I agree with everything you just said. Crysis, to me, is just one of those few games that lets you be creative and imaginative. Never before have I played a game where i can shoot down a tree and have it fall on a bad guy or pick up a chicken and throw it at some North Korean do distract him as I pick up the North Korean and throw him at his friends.

It took me a while to appreciate the game because on my first play through, i played the game like any other FPS with no physics or creativity involved, but now, I just can't play any other FPS game without thinking about how much better Crysis is.

I really suggest you try it again, but not everybody will like it. It's just a shame that you can't find many games like it.

Same. I cant go back to a COD4 or a KZ2 and play linear corridor shooting with only one objective: shoot bad guys in face. In crysis you have objectives like that but many ways to go abou them. You stated it perfectly.

I thought the opposite...I thought Crysis was going to be this average game with pretty graphics. I was mightily impressed by the gameplay and the variation in how you could approach the objectives. Sure the ending blew, but otherwise, it was a great game.

Please explain how you find the gameplay average and repetitive. As in you see something, you shoot it, repeat? I've played through the game at least four or five times, and I have never once approached any situation in the same way. What is so average and repetitive about a game where every one situation plays out differently each time?

As for the story, lack of a complex and compelling plot isn't exactly a game breaker. Just ask Duke Nukem or your friend Mario.

Do you have proof of this? Next thing you'll be telling me is that when I played Crysis in May of this year that I loved it and thought it was the best looking game I had ever seen. Am I allowed to form my own opinion about a game - or do I have to ask you how I feel about it?

How far into it are? Its a little slow off the blocks, but once you get into the thick of the missions and the campaign you will have a stronger reading of the environments and your objectives, meaning you will be able to improvise upon how you approach your objectives. The game isn't going to tell you not to play it as a generic run and gun FPS.

No Crysis is well beyond the vast majority of shooters in terms of gameplay. Its design for most of the part is superb, when you take out the ice levels.

I wasn't blown away when I first played it. Then after a little while I eventually figured out how to use the nanosuit properly, and then I realised just how incredible it is.

If it weren't for the very average final chapter, it would be a strong contender for Half-Life 2's crown.

That boggles my mind. I have played Crysis through to the end, and even given it another go (as I thought I might have missed the fun the first time round) but got bored. It comes nowhere near to HL2.

Crysis must just be a love or hate kind of game. It didn't impress me much.

gentlemen am gonna say to words... 1) nanosuit the crowd :YAYAYAYAYAYYAYA 2)Generic simple run an gun fps the crowd...BOOOOOOOOOOOOO So i dont like the nanosuit and i want a polished generic fps , apart from graphics crysis is an unpolished fps which could have been amaziong if they spend more time to balance the game and fix some mechanics...what makes it so awesome and gets the hype? the nanosuit.... if you dont like the nanosuit like me then its average with graphics... What does he mean by repettive? Well games nowadays lack good levels and cool situations full of action, instead their levels seem generic and they often use repettive objectives... mainly borring stuff.. last game i played that actually had some juice in it was dead space...

actaully no, there are lots of **completely different ways ** to kill people , one just needs to think a little bit harder. I think, some achievements like 'kill x people in this way' would have helped. secondly, which all shooters do you think offer more variety in completing missions than crysis ?

artiedeadat40
i dont understand the question but, well i think crysis is a fun game but nothing amazing, i prefer games that are polished without any bugs or weird ai and gameplay and i sidlike games that gameplay that often feels: "what the hell i just 3 times kbiw shot you die" I also dont like those "inovative ideas like crysis or timeshift, because in both the cake is a lie... Sure you can stop time in timeshift and you can shoot someone 1000000 times in the head or the body when you see the blood popin everywhere and you take a few hits only, but that defeats the point of having those abilities and it would be better as normal fps. I feel the same way for crysis, sure you got a nanosuit and you got armor mode which doesnt even show any significat advantage from all the other suit modes, plus the enemies that use nanosuits take a million shots which i personnally fid crap, also you got cloak mode but it runs down like crazy and most times the stealth is a lie. Your weapons are more innacurate than in arma 2, but they dont cause damage plus the ai behaves totally unreallistic and is insanly accurate even from extreme range.... simply the whole realistic mechanics and unreallistic mechanics in the game are frustrating the player and all those could be avoided if it was a simple game like far cry..... In the end its all about if you are willing to play for the innovative ideas OR if you see nothing at them and you just want a simple well polished game.... so its diffirent opinions i guess, i hope i answered your question.

But its not tho? For a start you have the Suit which gives you unlimited possibilities to tackle a situation in anyway you deem fit. The game features a level dedicated to Tank Warfare including giving you the option to go on foot. It features Sniper orientated levels and levels dedicated to fighting the Aliens. It also features some nice bosses the Korean Crysis suited guys come to mind especially. Its any but repetitive and compared to some modern FPS games dose a good job of throwing in variety. A lot of the appeal of Crysis for me was the ability to tackle situations how you see fit, like driving a vehicle into a military outpost leaping out of it and blowing it up as it ploughs through the structures. If you dislike the game thats fair enough but you have to give it credit for being a refrshing change to the FPS genre.

This debate is getting kind of tired.

I'll admit that after playing the Crysis Maximum edition that I also created one such thread, chiefly because the graphics didn't blow me away, as I had assumed they were going to. But these threads aren't about people exchanging ideas, they're really just about people exchanging insults.

You just have to accept that the mind-blowing game you've spent hours playing, and love to death, and feel is one of the best games ever made, will not be met with the same enthusiasm as everyone else. You could write a passionate lengthy post about every feature that you love about the game, and inevitably somebody is going to write: meh.

Ugh enough with this already, Whoa you took a slightly different root or killed the same enemies from another position or the really limited weapons/abilities congrats to you. .. "completely different way"... nothing more than an illusion.

actaully no, there are lots of **completely different ways ** to kill people , one just needs to think a little bit harder. I think, some achievements like 'kill x people in this way' would have helped. secondly, which all shooters do you think offer more variety in completing missions than crysis ?

Sorry, but killing someone with super punch does exactly the same thing as normal punch only with some *hilarity*, the guns are typical, and throwing objects at people ... what other boundaries are there? In the end its all waypoints, im not saying there is more variety in others, but the illusion of "choice" is absolutely ridiculous. to anwser your question despite its genre being on the fence of 2 ... Dues Ex felt like more a choice by a complete and utter landslide ... Crysis has the most boring "choice" mechanic ever... waste my time being bored walking AROUND a complex or shoot it up... ram into the objective in a car or nade spam it... Cmon... its quite frankly nothing special.

The gameplay is repetitive only if YOU make it repetitive. There are many ways to do everything, it's not our fault that you chose to do the same thing over and over again.

why people got that ilusion?

God Knows, I cant communicate with teh gaurds or bypass them in interseting manners, I'm a gunner with a handful of powers... god there was just as many ways in Bioshock... if not more.

Yes I was disappointed with crysis. Not much of a story. The gameplay was just ok.

Indeed, technically its amazing. But its one of the most loveless games ive every played, I dont even own a PS3 .. and im pro PC to hell and back, hell i even hyped Crysis up into oblivion. But Killzone 2/Uncharted 2/Bioshock and many other "shooters" have so much more love in them than this game... and look better because of it. (artistically.)

I really disagree, the game gives you as much more freedom and creativity compare to other FPS.

Crysis is a fantastic game. The weapon customization, nanosuit abilities, amount of free-roam provided, object interaction, destructible environment, vehicles at your disposal, etc. give you the tools to play the game in different manners in addition to allowing room for creativity/experimentation and playing the game at your own pace (play it run and gun if you choose, or slow it down and scout around locations/areas first as an example).

Any one of those features can likely be found in other games with an even greater implementation (this dissection and comparison of specific elements can probably be done with any game btw - it shouldn't be limited to Crysis), however, games should be measured as the sum of their parts, and I have not seen first person shooter sandbox combat implemented anywhere better than in Crysis.

No game "suits" everyone though and shouldn't be expected to, if someone doesn't find the game as appealing as I do, that's perfectly fine. So of course it's not just you OP, don't sweat it ;)

lol most of the people in here are probably trolls trying to get a reaction out of the hardcore crysis fans. If they say the graphics suck you know they are lying (or only were able to play on low settings rofl). Just have to ignore them guys stop feeding them it makes them happy!

There really are two vastly different opionions here. The game isn't bad like some people are making it out to be, now Far Cry 2 is a bad game. It's better than alot of if not most fps games that have come out in the past couple of years but it's not exactly revolutonary gameplaywise like alot of people are making it out to be but from a technical standpoint it is without a doubt revolutionary.

Kaisos

Totally agree. Not even as good as Far Cry 1.

I've tried to play this game but can't play It for more than a couple of hours before I fall asleep...................

Ugh enough with this already, Whoa you took a slightly different root or killed the same enemies from another position or the really limited weapons/abilities congrats to you. .. "completely different way"... nothing more than an illusion.

Ok, apparently you can't think creatively enough to imagine what I'm talking about yourself, so let's work through a scenario in Crysis.

On the "recovery" chapter, you must infiltrate a KPA base and rescue a hostage. Here's a list of some ways I've approuched this situation in the past:

- Came in from the high ground, sniped the gas pumps at the gas station, blowing it up and creating a diversion that drew all of the enemies in the base the that point. I then retraced my steps, snuck down the shoreline at the other end of the base, and made my way to the hostage with very little opposition.

- Sniped a few enemies, which drew a large number of enemies over to investigate the bodies, then I blew up the nearby gas pump, causing death and chaos. Ran into the base, guns blazing, taking advantage of the confusion.

-Snuck all of the way to the hostage without killing a soul, running from bush to bush, wall to wall.

-Drove full speed in an enemy jeep towards the front gate of the base, jumped out of the jeep as it was moving, dived into some bushes. When the jeep reached the gate, I blew it up with a remote bomb I had attached to it. Death, chaos. I remained in the bushes, sniping the confused KPA until I could enter the base with relatively little opposition.

Those are just a few examples. I've done that mission in many other different ways, and I have no doubt that I'll find another way to do it the next time I play it. Point is, if you think that the only option you have is to take a different route or attack an enemy from a different position, you will undoubtedly find this game very average and repetitive. Action games can be more than just walking mindlessly towards a blip on your minimap and headshoting anything that gets in your way.

Ok what? You dont own a PS3 yet you think all those games are better? How the heck can you make the assumption they have "much more love in them"? And from those, only KZ2 has been released.

And since I actually own a PS3 and am playing KZ2 right now actually, I can safely tell you Crysis blows it away in every possible category, gameplay and story included.
