I have a few questions about the level editor crysis will have and the community's usage of it.

first question is whether farcry's level editor was popular or not. did people share a lot of player made levels? did they share more single player levels or multiplayer levels?

second, do you guys think the level creator will be used a lot in crysis? will people be willing to share and download stuff people made, or not too much?

the reason I ask these questions is.. I think crysis has the technical capacity to make level creating really really cool. If I do spend a lot of money to play the game I want player made levels to be a big thing. hopefully in the future, we have games that are centered around level creating for Co-op campaigns and multiplayer (hopefully coop is somehow modded into crysis eh?).

i'd never looked into the farcry editor before (i didn't even know there was one till a couple weeks ago), but i just checked planet farcry (which would presumably be a good source of maps) and there's a paltry five single player campaigns but plenty of random single player maps

and even if the farcry editor wasn't popular, that certainly doesn't mean the crysis editor won't be popular too - i for example am pretty much entirely buying crysis for the editor

i hated the farcry campaign, especially (like everyone else) once the mutants got in there, and i doubt i'll like the crysis campaign - technology is crytek's strongsuit, not game structure

so, yeah, i can only speculate but i have a feeling the crysis editor will be pretty popular - although with the exception of half life stuff, and perhaps quake 2 stuff before that, single player mods/levels have never been all that popular

but i'm buying it solely for the technology and editor at this point, the single player campaign doesn't appeal to me at all

farcry got a coop mod by the way, so it's not unreasonable to assume crysis will as well

The videos shown I think were of the developers tools. I don't believe there available when you buy Crysis. I could be wrong and I hope I am. It would be fun to create levels for that game.

that was my assumption too, since it was part of what seemed to be an advertisement for companies licensing the engine and buying the sdk, but the general consensus is that crysis the game comes with a wysiwyg level editor for all, just like the video showed (and that farcry had a similar editor)

so i'm hopeful

I won't buy it without an editor, otherwise you're only buying half a game, like buying a game without MP. To me that is anyway, for games like that.

I think the easiest way to make against-bot levels popular for creating and sharing would be to put easy map sharing and co-op into the actual game so that more people would do it. We'll just have to hope the level creator is the one shown in the videos...

And I agree that the campaign probably won't be all that. I would probably still play it, but people are overhyping it. There have been plenty of games in the past where there's multiple ways you can choose to go..

AHEM... mutants and feral abilities , for me were the highlight of the original far cry on consoles, it's what separated the 2 games making them both entirely playable even if you'd played the other, i understand completely how these abilities are not suited to the PC versions of this game but when you've an analogue pad in your hand theres nothing better than slicing up an oaf in a beautiful jungle online with your fingernails on a map you created yourself, I hope far cry 2 on consoles will keep these features whil on PC they keep them out.

Crysis on the other hand has implemented these features on PC as genetic enhancements.. they are exactly the same and yet people are accepting and even loving them (go figure)

I will be buying both Crysis and Far Cry 2 solely for the editors, and When FC2 and rumoured down-spec Crysis hit 360 later this year I will buy them both again, for the editors AND hopefully feral abilities on Far Cry

yes, I do think it will be big, the game's dynamic AI and strong editor make it easy to make nice singleplayer, and multiplayer level...I saw a database of them somewhere, and their are already a lot.
