How will crysis run on a 512MB GEFORCE 8600GTS???
I am looking for well valued graphics cards that will run crysis on a fairly high setting without spending over £170 ($350)

if you put an extra 20 quid on your budget you can get an 8800 GTS from Ebuyer. i think the 8600GTS will run crysis (DX 9) on fairlyhigh settings probably 8X AA(most likely 4Xthough)max really.yoyo462001
Ok thanks thats quite helpful. I see you have one yourself on your "RIG"... I assume you can run all your current games on high settings.
What made you say DX 9? Is crysis DX 10 much more demanding? How does Dx 9 compare with Dx 10?

well DX10 we really dont know because crysis hasn't been released but the graphics onit are supposed to be realy really good. yeah with the 8600GTS i run lost planet on all high settings but on 8X AA at 30 fps and on everything fulll maxed out on 16X AA at 15 fps.Anti-aliasing is what grpahics cards do these days to smooth out edges in games and make it look so much sweeter. X16 AA smooths out egdes much more than X8, theres a big differnce between no Anti-aliasing and X8 but very litle between X8 and X16.

While writing your response, you really should've reminded this OP about the wastefulness of going beyond 256 MBs of RAM on a 128 bit medium performance video card. The memory system bandwidth is too narrow and the core speed too slow to make use of any more VRAM than the 256. The extra VRAM is strictly a marketing scam.
P.S. (in Edit) I wonder if outages here yesterday and again for a few minutes today are related to this slowness of the forums to refresh individual threads? There's supposed to be a further response from YoYo in here, according to the index page, but it's not showing up yet (a half hour after I initially composed my comment). Meanwhile, I did omit one proviso when saying that the balance beyond 256 is useless.
It won't be used by any games, but potentially there can be applications dealing with very large files, such as audio, photographic, and video projects, that could use the extra VRAM. I don't use PhotoShop myself, however I've been advised that it will not see any advantage from video cards with more VRAM than a game can use, either.

lol the 128 bit mem interface is what really lets this card down, its max bandwith is only 30 Gb/s.to start of change your graphics card imo the LE stands for LOSER EDITION, to be honest its not there for gaming. the card has 128mb memory on the actually card but takes 128 mb from your system memory so it equals 256mb.Will a GeForce 7300LE do any good with 256 RAM or should I just get a new one. And how come the card says,
Dedicated Memory: 128mb
Total Memory: 256 mb
Hatiko

You already have what will surely prove to be an adequate response to the real question within a question from what you wrote above. You are here in a forum on a web site dedicated to game play, therefore, your rather vague phrase "do any good" ends up being interpreted as if you wrote something on the order of "Can I play games with a 7300 LE and do so enjoyably?"
In the real world outside of games, HP sells tens of thousands of cheap PCs with that same video card included, and it works just fine for business applications, such as charting, graphing, spreadsheets, and Powerpoint Presentation Shows, even decently for various casual games (2D) that are popular. But you asked here, and the question was NOT taken at face value.
How about a eVGA Geforce 7900GS?Hatiko
I would suggest getting the x1950Pro instead of the 7900GS. Its only 10-20$ more, and performs better, iirc.
How about a eVGA Geforce 7900GS?Hatikoits good but you can do better for its price ifyou live in teh USyou can find a x1950pro on www.newegg.com for $136 and its a great card
im getting the 8800 GTS card, how will this card perfrom on crysis? and also just generally with other pc stuffblingbling4You can max crysis with that card
Okay so thats good, so how Crysis handle on the rest of the specs?
