ok ,so a few days ago i got a 8800gt.but all games run like ****. i want to know why it is runing poorly, and how to fix it

what is stange is that whatever settings/resolution i use the FPS are almoast identical

using FRAPS

crysis:15fps on my own or 4fps in a fire fight

unreal tournement 3(demo) 15fps

COD4(demo) 15fps (but if im in a small space it will jump to 40fps)

COD2 25fps (but if in in a small space it will jump to 60fps also verry ocasionaly(during a fire fightit will drop to less than 10fps)

these results are the same with any combination of resolution and graphics settings.

computer spec:

pentium D 2.8ghz (dual core??)

2gig ram

600watt psu (using a 4pin to 6pin converter.)

ASUS P5L-MX mother board

xfx 8800gt

.

hear is some of the stuff i have done

i have re formated and reinstaled windows

i have the latest drivers

i have checked all the conections of wires on my computer(mobo/psu etc)

is the problem my prosessor like some people have said b4? or is it something else like my motherboard?

the only thing that confuses me is that COD2 still cant run well and that only needs a 1.4ghz pentium 4

Maybe the gfx card is broken.

If you have no idea what to do next then contact the supplier and get a new card.

I may not be too much help, but I think that it may be your CPU (Pentium D is pretty horrible. I have the same one until my new PC comes in :()

I used to use a Pentium D, but it wasn't bad compared to my e6300. I'd still get 40+ FPS on COD4.

I'm guessing the GPU is faulty, try getting it replaced.

Sorry if I am misunderstanding your specs as you typed then but you have question marks next to your processor. Are you saying you aren't sure if it's a dual core processor or not? If it isn't a dual core processor then a single core at 2.8ghz is your problem. If it is a dual core processor then I am not sure what is wrong.

I dunno regardless of the cpu its a dual core and he should at least be getting playable frames in all those games less crysis. Id say your gpu is probably messed up

The Pentium D is not that great and will bottleneck the card, but getting low frames like that especially in the UT3 demo is not right, the card might actually be defective and needs to be replaced, also check to see if the card isn't overheating because that will cause it to slow and eventually fire out

I think you've created another thread few days ago.

YOUR PROCESSOR IS THE PROBLEM.

wen i turn my computer on it says i have 2 cores running at 2.8ghz .but every one says thatmycpuis crap.i thought it was good (2.8 x 2.8 = 5.6and 5.6 = good ) so iwas confused toweather it was or not

it says i have 2 cores running at 2.8ghz does that mean 2 x 2.8 or 2 x 1.4??

I highly doubt it's the CPU. I had that EXACT CPU type, and while playing COD4 on a GF 7600GT, my framerate wouldn't go below 40.

Two horse are pulling a carriage a 50 km/h. Are they travelling at 100 km/h or 50 km/h?

Similar thing with multicore processors.

One more test: Have you tried running 3DMark06?

You have one of three problems:
1) Your CPU is giving you a huge bottleneck
or
2) Your card is faulty
or
3) Your card isn't receiving enough power (a 600w PSU should include a PCIE six pin cable)

i suppose you have the latest DRIVERS installed? all the hotfixes for Vista (if you are using Vista)? yes?

broken card then...

your CPU ain't the problem here. my bro ran UT3 fine with P4 @ 3Ghz with X2600 GPU. and you CPU is much better.

you computer WILL NOT BOOT if the power cable is not connected to your GPU. believe me, i've tried. i run BFG 8800 GT OC2 with 500W PSU and with AMD 6000+ CPU. all just fine.

This probebly isn't it, but I saw that you didn't mention that you had your graphics card plugged into your psu. Make sure that you're 8800 is firmly connected to the psu, or you won't get sufficiant performance.

If your processo is calleda Pentium 4 D it is not a Core 2 duo.. That is your problem.. Secondly is there even a Core 2 duo that has stock speeds that high? Yes its your cpu holding you back, this is a easy fix you can get some like a E4x00 for less then $100 and overclock that to around 2-2.4ghz speeds on stock cooler with usually not a single change in voltage.

Before you go as far as saying your card is faulty (which I doubt it is, seeing as faulty cards usually hardly ever have anythign to do with lacking performance) run benchmarks.. Run tons of artificial benchmarks, most will give youa comparison in multiple fields including graphic and processor seperately. Do this before you even try anything else.. SPECIALLY when you are only having problems with one game.. For all we know it could be a configuration problem or any other countless software problems.. Just because your computer is running ONE game liek crap doesn't mean your hardware is faulty.

Yes but there is not a single chip out on the market that is clocked specifically at 2.8 ghz for a core 2 duo or quad.. it either goes from 2.66ghz or it jumps past 2.8 and the next model is 3.0 ghz. So he definitly does have a aging pentium 4 procesor, if his processor is at stock speeds.

If your using Vista make sure you have the Hotfixes applied! There is for some a virtual memory issue that causes games to run like poor! Get them, then reinstall crysis and your other games that arent running right and try it again!

Im assuming you dont have the hotfixes installed as you said you already tried reinstalling windows. Note this is only for Windows Vista though! You can find the Hotfixes on nVidia's website or search Microsoft.com.

I would say it's the Pentium D.

I had a P4 @ 3.2 and 8800GT and it would struggle in crysis. UT3 and COD4 weren't so bad though.

Processor probably the bottleneck.
