Those two levels were the best performing levels on my HD3870 Crossfire setup. I got anywhere between 40-60 fps at Very High settings in those levels. I keep hearing those levels were the worst performing levels, but I think in the case of ATI cards they actually do better then Nvidia cards (in just those two levels). I could be wrong though, but from my own experience my setup eats those levels for lunch.karasill
See, I think I heard something like this from you, or it may have been someone else. This is what's bugging me. To be honest, it might actually be better to have higher fps in the snow/core levels.. but I'm not entirely sure. Man. Decisions decisions. Get the 3870... or the 8800GTS 512...
[QUOTE="04dcarraher"]The Ice levels for me ran great, The ice levels are more stressfull on a cpu than the gpu for some odd reason. Any of the 8800GT/GTS's run Crysis great depending on CPU.ruuuj
What CPU do you have? I'm using an X2 4600 @ 2.8Ghz.
Its in my sig but anyways Athlon X2 6000+

The 8800GTS is the better card and overall will run Crysis 25%-30% faster then the HD 3870. But it's also $100 more expensive. You get what you pay for. However, for the price the HD3870 is worth every penny and will offer really good performance. If you want to go dual card setup, then get two 3870's, they're even faster then two 8800 GT's in SLI in most games.Listen lads, I'm going out for a bit and aint gonna be back until late, so if someone could provide some GPU benchmarks/videos of the snow/core levels, I'd be VERY grateful!!! I'm really getting desperate now; I want to know if I should get the 3870 or 8800 GTS 512!ruuuj
The 8800GTS 512 cream the 3870 up and down the board. Even the 8800Gt beats the 3870's,

Why would you buy a graphics card based on the a couple levels in one game? Anyways, in every benchmark I have seen the 8800GT/GTS perform much better than the HD 3870 in crysis. Crysis is one game that the HD3870 can struggle in, and unfortunately crossfire doesn't work very well with it either.
I can tell you that with my 8800GT I get 20-35 FPS in the Ice level with very high settings @ 1280x960, 20 being when I look out over a large landscape and 35 being when I am narrowly viewing objects.
Karasil, what resolution do you play at?
I play at 1440x900. I'm trying to get screencaps off my gaming computer now. Give me like 30-45 minutes to post them up.Why would you buy a graphics card based on the a couple levels in one game? Crysis on all Very High @ 1440*900,DX10
Rig specs:(Phenom 9600, 4 GB's of ram, two HD3870's in Crossfire, Windows Vista 64 bit)
I suggest looking at every picture. I want you to see the highs and lows on what kind of framerate I'm getting.

EDIT: I wonder why the pictures aren't at 1440*900... :| Does photobucket compress images if they're too big?
the core and paradise lost levels ran smoothly for me with virtually no slow down, and god were they beautiful. the assault level was the worst for my 8800GT 256MB video card. there was noticable choppiness at the naval dock (still playable by all means)and some lag during the opening scenes when all of the explosions were happening.
I play with mostly high settings, no AA, at a resolution of 1440 X 900.
My 8800gt and q6600 died on the ice levels and assault...(everything high except medium shadows), are you sure you people arn't using custom configs?OblivionXIII'm using default configs, the pics show off the pure brute force of my computer. I'm running in DX10 and Vista no less :| I could squeeze an extra 6-8 frames if I ran the game in DX 9 mode in XP and did the Very high hack.
[QUOTE="karasill"][QUOTE="Rikusaki"][QUOTE="filmography"]you should get a 3870X2 instead of a 8800GT, just wait an extra week.
Rikusaki
Yeah but.. isn't the 3870X2 500$?
$460 I believedarn thats still a lot.
i think i will stick to gettin the new 8800 GTS G92
True, but you get what you pay for and for the price it's a great buy.The Core level isn't nearly as demanding as the snow levels. The snow levels are heavy on the CPU because of the snow particle effects.
The screenshots of the snow level indicate you are getting 35-40 fps, as opposed to 40-60 fps. You're overestimating your framerate by no less than 50%.
[QUOTE="filmography"]^yes, although SLI that would be pretty expensive to the point that it would be better to just get a HD 3870 X2, ruuuj
Problem is, 1 3870X2 falls behind 1 8800GTS 512 in Crysis, so, you know... man this is bugging me.
The 3870X2 relies on games that support Crossfire/Sli to work good Your better off Getting a 8800GT/GTS and play any game you want great and later on Sli them for better performance.

And as gog pointed your performance isnt any way near what you said. And since you arent using AA and AF and using 2xAA and 16xAF will send you in the 20's,i wouldnt call it "brute force".
