I have found in the past the 'recommended' system requirements are lower then what they really are because they just want more people to buy the game (even if you get 10 FPS from it!).08-03-2007

I disagree with the ram, I bet its going to 2 gigs of ram reccomended.

I think that depends on the size of the maps. Back when I had a dead stick of RAM, I was only using a gig on Vista, and everything but the Battlefield series ran very smooth. Then again, I would still go with 2 gigs, just to be safe (especially when running Vista). The one thing I do disagree with is the HDD requirements. 6 gigs of space seems like quite a lot for one game. I though FEAR was a space hog at just under 4GB.

Wow. Those requirements are quite a bit lower than I was anticipating. I'm surprised that under XP it'll run with an x800 and less than a gig of RAM.

Of course it's not needed, everyone knows that. However it has been stated by Crytek's CEO that Quad Core is definately the best way to play the game, get over it.

While if your right my Pentium D might just wait around a bit longeradam0926

Does anyone know what the differences are between Intel Pentium D processors and Intel Core 2 Duo processors? I have the Intel Pentium D 830 (90-nm architecture, 2x1 MB L2 cache, 3 GHz clock speed, 800 MHz FSB). I know they are both dual core, but are there any significant differences?

Well seeing as how AMD x2 beat P4/Pd by about 30% and C2D beats x2 by about 20%, yes there is quite a bit of difference between C2D and Pd.

Does it make a huge difference for 3D gaming, though? I was under the impression that the GPU is a lot more important for performance these days...

It depends on what resolution you are playing at and the settings. The lower the res and settings the more the CPU matters.

LordEC911

Why would the CPU matter more at lower resolutions/settings? I usually play with high settings at 1600x1200, and I have not noticed performance issues on games from 2005 and earlier (my graphics card is a GeForce 6800 256 MB, by the way). I plan to upgrade to an 8800 GTS 640 MB at some point, but I am wondering if the CPU is going to be a problem?

Because at low resolutions/settings moves the bottleneck from the GPU to the CPU.
If you are still using a 6800, you don't need to worry about upgrading your Pd until you can buy that GTS, which a 320mb is more then enough for you.

LordEC911

So would you suggest upgrading the CPU to a C2D when I upgrade to an 8800? Would I be limiting the performance significantly if I stayed with the 3 GHz Pentium D after upgrading to the 8800?

Well, what about running it at 1920x1200 at max settings? can a 8800 Ultra, 2GB Ram, and 6600Quad Core do that?
