Well, I guess 3 million sales for Crysis made Crytek realise that the game wasn't a failure on the PC after all... They announced that the next Crysis installment will be PC exclusive:

"a new, enhanced and optimized" version of CryEngine 2.
Optimized as much as the original? I'll pass...(anyone else tired of having developers "exagerate" to our faces?)
Good going Crytek.
Not only have you managed to crush the hopes and dreams of 8 year old Xbox owners everywhere, you also managed to make yourselves look like tools.
Congrats.

:? By releasing an expansion pack? Egh?
expansion pack? It's not an expansion pack... It's a sequel. It has a new graphic engine and a new main character...Sinotek
That's what all the sources I'm reading are saying, but I haven't seen Crytek officially stating that it is specifically a sequel. It seems more like a standalone expansion to me, and like all the sources are just too quickly assuming it's a sequel. You play as Psycho during the same time frame as the base game takes place (so you get to play out what he was doing all that time while you were doing what you were doing as Nomad). That sounds a lot more like the setting for an expansion. Furthermore, the date is too early for a full-blown sequel, even taking in to consideration the fact that the engine is already built.
Correct me if I'm wrong though and Crytek has said that this is in fact "Crysis 2."
Also, it does not have a new graphics engine. It's still CryEngine 2.0, only Warhead will have more of its features enabled (Crysis was by no means the limit of what CE2 can do).
Didn't some guy speculate that we would be playing as psycho in one of the crysis warhead threads yesterday?
Interesting to see how it'll turn out, to bad we'll still be left with that damn cliffhanger ending.

Yeah, Ondoval did.
It's not a sequel. A sequel would mean it takes place after the first.
It takes place 'during the events of the original game'
Lulz, you didn't get 100+ FPS at 1680x1200 err w/e that resolution is?"a new, enhanced and optimized" version of CryEngine 2.

I just remember them saying "a 8800GTS will run this maxed." Next week. "a 8800GTS will run this on high." Release day. "a 8800GTS will run mostly high @ low resolutions."
I have no problem with games that require powerful hardware, but when developers start lieing and exagerating to me just to get me to purchase a game. That's where I start having problems.

Yeah, I was disappointed because I bought into some of the things they were saying. Some points to remark:
1-Crysis does not sell 3 millions, this was a rumor; probably around 1.2-1.7 millions is a more real data.
2-Crytek hold at now three main studies: Frankfurt, Kiev and Budapest, with a total employees near to 190. For a company as big is a key to launch new stuff with some regularity. Is a bonus to known that Warhead dosn't need Crysis to be played. Also, since the initial six levels of certain "free roaming degree in the jungle" were the most liked in general, is good to asume that this paralel spin off probably will take place mainly in open enviroments. Also, this is not really new: Opposing Forces and Shift Blue had similar perpective.
3-Crytek was talking about to not develope new franchises "as only PC exclusives", but never said a word about Crysis going multi. And as far as this means no compromising the quality of the saga, the thing is ok to me.
4-Must be noted the impact of the new advances in the hardware front. In november, when Crysis was launched, it may run with a single 8800 GT (220 €) at 1280 x 960 at more than 30 fps with all the settings at high. Sadly, the main market to Crysis (hardcore fps players and graphic whores) usually have a 20" display or better. This meant that a lot of people was whinning about the "optimization". Well, the thing is that in a few weeks the Radeon HD 4850 will be in the market (around 150 €) and with his 420 Stream Processor Units probably will be even powerful than the 8800 GT with 1/2 the price of a 360 Premium. Also, to hardcore players/pockets the GeForce 260/280 probably will hand Crysis at 1080p over 30 fps in very high. The things will be even better in the Warhead launchtime, as the cards will going more powerful and more cheaper.

Isn't that in itself a rumour?
