Thinking of getting the Colermaster Hyper 212 Plus, but I have seen and read that there are groves on the bottom of the heat sink (pics here) where the heat pipes meets the CPU. Is this something to be worried about when installing it, to get the groves filled with thermal paste? Or can you recommend a different cooler for a S775 for about the same price point?

There's nothing you should worry about, Heat-pipe direct touch works rather effectively and has few problems. The only issue is that it doesn't create a completely flat surface, which most high performing coolers have and is best for conduction.

Yeah, ok. I just noticed that the Hyper 212 Plus won't fit on my motherboard, the heat pipes going from the base to the fins will touch the heat pipes on the mb. So can some one recommend a good S775 cooler that hasn't got such a big base, in the same price range (don't mind giving a bit more) that's the only real criteria. I have been locking on different coolers for a while now I just can't make up my mind, I'm hopeless that way. :P Not a good trait.

I used the original Coolermaster hyper 212 for my p5q deluxe before switching to water cooling. All I can say that its a GREAT cooler. If its true that hyper 212+ is better performing than the original, I would highly recommend it.

P.S. The heatpipe actually won't touch the MB. It will be close but won't touch it. Truest me because p5q deluxe has similar cooling heat pipes on the MB
