I finally get 7 coal, and since I only have about a 20m-1 chance of winning the big giveaway, I decided to craft my coal into a free game. And what do I get? A game of YOUR choosing, not mine. DoD:S. Now, I haven't played the game yet, so I'm sure it's good. But seriously, Valve? I would've much preferred MW3 or LA Noire or something like that if I had the choice. Anyone else have the same problem as me?

This. I crafted my coal into....wait for it....a 50% off coupon for Vice City. Woo hoo......I already got The Witcher from doing an achievement, but really now.....you got DoD:S which is a badass shooter I still play to this day
A game of your choice like MW3 for the 7 coals? No... it's unreasonable to expect this from them. I imagine people will buy a few cheap games and do some of the Steam achievements to get the 7 coals to get a $60 dollar game.

Trade them to people. I got King's Bounty Platinum, Monday Night Combat, and STALKER: CoP just by trading my coal/crappy coupons along with some TF2 swag.

Sorry, but I can't understand why anyone can complain about getting free stuff for doing nothing more than playing a game. I got 5 free games during this sale, but have given all my coal away to friends because I got to many games already. Seem to get games for buying games during the sale. I also have like 5 coupons I don't want and would be glad to give them away. I only kept 1 game and traded 1 for another. The others I gave to friends.
I consider myself lucky to have gotten a good game that I didn't have yet. You should do the same. Yes, the coupons are completely worthless, but valve is still givng away a fair amount of stuff virtually for free, and DoDs is a really good game.

It's just that they clearly said you can craft 7 coal into a gift (which I assumed was a free game) from the Great Gift Pile (which I assumed was from any of the games featured as Daily Deals), not coupons. I still have my 33% Valve (which includes the Complete Pack) and 50% Fallout: New Vegas (probably without DLCs) coupons, but obviously I can't use them...yet. (Even though Fallout's price with the coupon wouldn't change from what it is now.)

Bought a copy of bioshock 2 and sold it for 25 coal. used 7 coal and idiotically crafted 7 of the 27 i had, got a bad coupon. But its okay, i got a free coal from a random person. Sold 14 coal for a $20 worth tf2 hat (BMOC) and the last 7 for 2.33 refined. Pretty good.

Be happy you even got a game. The majority of people are stuck with coupons from their crafting or achievements. I'm been fortunate enough to win two games from doing achievements. And instead of taking the risk of crafting my coal into a useless coupon, I traded it for a game I wanted.

Not sure tbh, i'm mostly into strategy games and rpg but would be hard finding something i don't already have. Probably some older games that i missed, i'll have to check.
Be happy you were able to CRAFT a free gift. I've got three coaland 13 hours to get four more coal and get something out of it. I doubt I'll get anything but it's a better chance at free games than Valve's giveaway. :(
