This game came out in 2006 and was extremely buggy. Bought it, registered it with Steam, played it for a while,

then gave up in frustration.

I recently fired it up again, and I must say, it's an extremely enjoyable first person action game, with light rpg elements thrown in.

Story and voice acting are not that great, basically, you' re a magician's son on a quest. It s the usual fantasy settings and figures, but the best

thing is the stellar combat that makes great use of the environments. It runs on the Source engine, so there are a good number of ways to dispose of enemies

using your surroundings.

Finally, a game I actually enjoy playing!

Nice to hear that I'm not the only one around here that enjoyed the game. Can't wait for Dishonored, the new project by Arkane studios.

Have you played Arx Fatalis? It's from the same studio, but clearly an RPG compared to Dark Messiah.

I really didn't have any problems with it at release either...but I agree it's a fantastic game. I do wish Arkane would have made Arx Fatalis 2 instead Dark Messiah though (I half expected it to be a spiritual successor at the time). With that said Dishonored sounds cool too...Arkane is a great dev.

Both, it's patched (I|m playing the steam version), and I have a better box. It runs well on Windows 7 64 bit, but I am getting an error message each time I close the game, something like: mmexe has stopped working. But that doesn't seem to effect saving and loading of the game.

I've loved this game from the start and I've always thought it had the combat system The Elder Scrolls should have. Try out the multiplayer! Best comparison I can make is medieval Counter-Strike. There aren't many people on now, but a few years ago you could get full servers and it was wild.

Honestly, probably new computer. They only ever released two patches for the game - one came within two weeks of the game's launch, that contained all of the crash fixes they ever did. The second patch was a month later. That's all that ever happened with the game, AFAIK, and all of it was in 06!

I tried that game back in 2006 and it wasn't much. The only bright thing was the combat system which was pretty good though, much better than in Oblivion which was the prime RPG back then.

It's a decent game, but I had huge issues with memory leaks. I had to quick save and quick load every few minutes or it started to lag.

play the demo - if you like it, you will LOVE the full game. it's somewhat repetitive, but when the repetition is the awesome melee combat i'm all over it :D

Bought It on day of release cant say I ran into any problems what so ever (was actually one of the more stable games on release Need For Speed Hot Pursuit Take Note!!). Loved the combat system and having only played through it once as Warrior class I must say that the combat system just destroys anything before it - Elder Scrolls should try and craft something similar for Skyrim with slick parry and rage system. Great Boss fights and nice variety of enemies and environment damage and puzzles. Best feature have to say was kicking Orcs and Goblins right in the ****s and watching them fall off the side of a cliff Love it!

i have a weird love for that game. A lot of things about it are bad. for example: The story, world, characters some of the level design. the rpg elements arent well design either. But the basic first person combat mechanics are great, and its got some cool and some other interesting mechanics, and fun to explore environments. The rope arrow is cool too.

its not a good game, but it has some good parts.... maybe i'll go play it again... lol

Wow, what a blast from the past. Dark Messiah was fun and had interesting gameplay (fun multiplayer), but story-wise and graphics/animation wise, it was fairly mediocre. No surprise it did bad in terms of reviews. Want to play a good, unique first-person brawler? Go buy Zeno Clash.

I disagree, graphics were outstanding at the time and have aged well for as long as it has been out. My review at release began with "the graphics are amazing" so not sure how they were mediocre in your eyes. The story wasn't bad, no different than most single player action games these days. http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/darkmessiahofmightmagic/player_review.html?id=377562&tag=contributions%3Breview25

i played the demo when it was released and i thought the idea of using environments in a fantasy first person environment was pretty amazing. however, i was also in the beta for multiplayer and it was terrible. after the reviews started coming in i chose not to buy it, but i will be keeping an eye out for a sale from now on

The full game is basically the demo x 10. It's almost exactly more of the same (maybe more varieties in terms of enemies and specific situations), but the combat itself remains the same. :D That's kind of what I was alluding to... I liked the demo a lot, so more of the same for hours and hours was just fine by me. I mostly played as a sword/shield warrior, and SCREW SPIDERS

Funny how people always bring up Oblivion when talking about this game. Dark Messiah has possibly the best melee combat, what fps has the best shooting combat? Crysis maybe? Do people bring up Crysis combat when talking about Fallout 3?

On the flip side I remember people complaining thatDark Messiah was linear. Oblivion was open world so some seem to think that every melee game should be open world for some reason. There mind couldnt fathom a linear melee game.

Linear action gamesshould always havebetter combat than an open world game. Takes so much work to build the world, theirs not much time and resources left for a great combat system.

Still annoyed that the game failed financially. So few games like this. Dark Messiah seems to have more in common with the Jedi Knight games than any other, and now we have no more of either.

I disagree, it IS a great game. But hey, opinions vary.

And for the guy who said the graphics were mediocre when it came out.....I just fired it back up max at 1920x1080 and it STILL looks good today, which means it was nothing less than cutting edge in 2006. Sorry, but you don't know what you're talking about.

Well this sucks. I get by the nvidea screen fine but now it's nothing but a black screen with the mouse pointer.

Good thing it's the demo.
