Just use periodic saves, instead of relying on auto-saves because the auto-saves overwrite. That's how I lost my old save file, but oh well, once you played the game once, the game goes really quick.

one word of warning - source game engine save files can sometimes get HUGE. although.. looking at my Source install, the actual files are ~15mb, though there's a 'ead_comingback.vcd' file that's almost 600mb. i'm pretty sure that when i looked before on a non-source install, they were 70mb apiece. i don't know anymore :)

Really? I got another question here. If I reinstall my game, will my saved files be deleted?

Every game I've ever had gives you the option to save custom content and save files independently when you reinstall. You should be fine.
