Dark Messiah looks like a great game.  I played the demo and I enjoyed it a lot.  Now I'm thinking about buying it.  Is it worth buying?  or would it be worth waiting for a price drop instead?

Well, I would wait until a price drop. There are too many unfixed bugs right now and the game is pretty short.

I played the demo, and frankly everything but the sometimes cool melee combat disgusted me.Apparently that's very much like the full game.

It was on sale for $40 canadain so i bought it.  I quite like it.  The bugs are mostly taken care of with the newest patch.  I have tried multiplayer and it is good but needs some balancing of the classes.  If you really liked the demo like i did then you should get it.

what sort of bugs have people been running into? i'm kinda curious.. i've played it through a few times and didn't run into any after the first patch was out right after release.

like a great movie trailer, a great demo can make the end product seem awesome - even though it's just not all that great

i spent dozens of hours in the dark messiah demo, playing it over and over in different ways, and i found myself thinking - this is 'king awesome, i can't wait for the full game, it's gonna be a goty contender

the final product, though, was far from consistent with the quality of the demo - like those best movie trailers, they take the great bits, and just show you those

the combat quickly becomes boring and, after a twist i won't mention, becomes simple and tedious and repetitive - and seeing spiked walls everywhere quickly loses its novelty - large sections of the game are also set up so it's impratical or impossible to play the game as a stealther, and you pretty much resort to just smacking guys in the face with a sword, which is boring and easy

many sections of the game also degenerate into tedious trial and error, and coupled with the numerous bugs and glitches, it can make for an insanely frustraitng experience (i actually encountered a moment where, after killing a guard in a certain way, he died and then got up, now invincible, and alerted his pals in the adjacent room!)

i had a couple BSOD crashes too, and loading and saving takes forever (quickload was a very, very unfunny joke) - the game also runs badly on high end systems, and we aren't talking unreal engine 3.0 here, this is a slightly modified version of 2004's source engine - i can run hl2 at over 100fps, why am i getting stutters in dark messiah?

all that said, though, i'm not trying to put you off buying it - and if it's pocketchange cheap, go right ahead and buy it - but gamespot's review of 6.7 or whatever it was was accurate for what the game is

the game is sloppy, but bits of it are fun

I would wait. The gameplay is decent, but the story and the actors.... It's like watching "2 fast & 2 furious". The action is okay, but every time someone opens his/her mouth, you want to shoot your TV. Get this game when it's 20-30 bucks, then it might be worth it. And yeah, this game crashes hard and frequently if you push your system to the limit. Pretty annoying.

I run at max settings with a mediocre computer after patching the game around 30fps consistently which is smooth enough for me. This isn't CS CPL, I dont need 100frames constantly so I can wtf pwnzor boom headshot orcs with my fiery bow of ownage. The combat is fun, The game is replayable, the only con to this game is the annoying wench that is always talking to you. Cue in winamp, turn down game volume... Much better... 7.5/10 wait for price drop.

Agreed.

The combat in DM is like a hand to hand combat FEAR.

Its utterly awesome, and add in the crazy physics, and it becomes wicked.
I mean setting wooden barrels on fire, then using telekenesis to send them hurling at orcs, or freezing the ground with ice to make dudes slip off edges....
FUN.

And the mage 'beating stick' is probably one of the most fun weapons ive used in an FP(S) in a while :)

Agreed. I dont understand reviewers calling this repetitive. What other game allows you to do that or lead a guy up a flight of stairs so you can kick him down. So many ways to kill. Its like the Jedi Knight games but with better melee and physics.

Yea I know what you mean - and I LOVED the Jedi Knight games :)

I mean if DM is soo repedative then why did FEAR not get critised so much for its repedative gameplay?

And Jeffs review is a shocker. Not just because of the score - The review in general sucks. He did an appaling Job.

I stand by DM deserved a 8.0/10.

Oh MP is a blast aswell :)

Heck yes. If you enjoyed the demo, definitely get it. I almost didn't get it cause of the reviews, but after reading some peoples opinions from another forum I desided to get it. Loved it. People who talk about it being too buggy and not running well even on high end systems are prepatched opinions. I've beaten the game with every ending avalable at 1680x1050, maxed out all the extras and turned every goody on, and it ran like a dream. No slow down, no problem. The reviewers were so far off on this game, I don't think they'll be able to pull there heads out of there hind quarters for years. In fact I doubt I'll ever listen to this bone headed reviewer again. At least not untill he finally gets his head pulled out to see the light again.

To buy. Definately. The combat - even if it gets repetitive - is just so much fun. Downside to me was that the game loads new areas/levels and all that really slowly but the game itself doesn't slow down. And I played the patched version but didn't have contact with any bugs.
