Hey gamespot, I hope this is the right place to ask this. I'm having some problems when trying to run Dark Souls and for the last couple of hours I've been searching everywhere and tried everything but nothing seems to match the problems I'm having, and it's pretty hard to find a solution if you're not sure what the problem is. I'm kinda out of ideas and I wouldn't come to you guys if I had any other places to look for solutions. I borrowed DS about a month ago from a friend and everything was going fine for a couple of days until I decided to download the dsfix. At that point the game stopped working, when I booted up DS all I got was a dark screen and I'm still not sure what I did wrong. At the time I didn't really care because I couldn't play DS for long anyways since I had to give it back. I uninstalled everything (or so I think) and went on with my life in blissful ignorance. Yesterday I decided to buy DS on amazon. I installed it and when I tried to play it the screen was still black, but the Steam and GFWL windows did work. The peculiar thing is that when I boot the game up and delete the DARKSOULS.exe *32 process, it does bring me to the menu sometimes because I can hear the menu sounds when I click enter, but the screen is still black. Since then I tried everything the internet told me, but I still came up with no solution. I also deleted the NBGI folder with the savefiles etc. several times before playing the game, but after every bootup it keeps making 2 separate folders, one named after my GFWL account and one other map. My graphic card's a GeForce GT 540M and as far as I know my computer matches all the minimum requirements. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be, or what forum I should visit where to ask about this problem? Im looking forward playing DS and these pc issues are really destroying my boner.

Did you apply the DSFix while the ingame anti-aliasing is on?

Make sure that the ingame anti-aliasing is turned off before you put the DSfix files in the folder. Other than that, it should work.

I'm not so sure, I think I did but since it's been a month after I first installed it I can't say yes with a 100% certainty. I deleted all the dsfix documents when I uninstalled DS for the first time and I haven't downloaded it since.

It's a bit hard figuring out where the PC settings are in the game if your screen is all black

If you're happy playing without dsfix, just don't bother with it. Without dsfix, you're basically getting the game, looking exactly as it does on consoles. I'm assuming by your video card that you're on a laptop? You're not gonna get stellar performance with dsfix anyway. If you want to try using it, though, download it again, but run the game without it, go into the PC options menu, and make sure to turn off anti-aliasing, and set the resolution to your monitor's native res (even though it doesn't actually do anything, without dsfix). then apply dsfix, set THAT to your monitor's native res, and see what happens. It's a pretty simple program, so I'm not sure what else could be causing problems, besides the conflicting AA.

Edit: were you saying you're getting just a black screen now, even without dsfix? If that's the case, reinstall the game, then go turn off the AA and reapply dsfix.

Have you tried running it without DSFix?

I used revouninstaller to completely swipe my laptop clean of any forms of Dark Souls-files, but I'm still getting the problem. Dark Souls worked for me fine once, then I applied the dsfix (and probably forgot to turn off AA). After I found out it didn't work I uninstalled the game along with the dsfix files but when I bought the game yesterday and tried to play it the screen was still black

Maybe is something in the registry. Use CCleaner or delete it manually by running regedit.exe

Should I just delete all the Dark Souls files? And how exactly do I do this with regedit.exe? Sorry for all these trivial questions, I'm not a real expert on these thing as you may already have noticed. I could also just go ahead and delete system.32 just to be done with it all

Delete everything that is Dark Souls related through the search option for Windows 7 then install CCleaner and scan for registry issues. After that reinstall the game. I hope thas this solution will work for you.

Umm definitely don't delete system32. Go to My Computer - C:Drive - Program Files x86 - Steam - steamapps and then delete the folder that says Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition Then to onto steam and right click Dark Souls and go into properties and find the option where it says "Verify Integrity of Game Cache". This will reinstall the game and should fix the problem

Hi, I downloaded Dark Souls on PC, but the screen shot stays in a box about 1/4th the size of the actual screen. Can anyone tell me how to get the game to go full screen? Thanks, Skydate

Turn off motion blur and AA. One of the crappiest port jobs in the history of PC gaming. Shame too because the actual game is supposedly great. I will never know because I cannot get past the frustration far enough to actually play it.
