Since the game is apparently only 2 weeks from release, who's hyped? I've been waiting for Darkfall for 2 years, but I haven't been following it actively. Adventurine seems like a smart company who knows what they're doing - I hope it doesn't fail.GodLovesDeadI can't find this game on Gamespot... Is there any info you can give me, and possibly others?

Darkfall is an MMORPG created by indie developer "Adventurine" in Europe. Its marketing is going to based on word-of-mouth and the gameplay is striving for innovation. The game spits in the face of those who think an MMORPG is about grinding rats and spiders for hours (like World of Warcraft). It has been in development for around 7 years (as far as I know). Gamespot hasn't updated their Darkfall page since 2006, so don't even bother looking at it.
What Darkfall is:
- Darkfall is PvP centric game. You make a character (limited to 1 per server) and from the get-go you can kill anyone, anywhere, any time.
- Darkfall has full loot. If someone dies, you can take everything they posess. If you die, they can take everything you posess.
- Darkfall is skills-based. Think of Oblivion, except there's 300 skills you can level up. You can level each skill all the way up to a soft-cap. For example, if you level up sword fighting to 100, you can level it up past that, but if you don't use the skill often it'll start to degrade back towards 100.
- Darkfall is aiming to have 500 skills, and 500 spells at launch.
- Darkfall has no levels.
- Darkfall doesn't have hotkey based combat. The combat is like Oblivion's, or Mount & Blades. As an archer, you aim your bow. With the sword, you have directional attacks and directional blocking.
- Crafting in the game is essential. It's been said you can craft any item in the game.
- Guilds create fortresses, which you can siege and take for yourself.
- You need to eat and drink regularly.
etc.
This game isn't for the kids who enjoy cancelling dates to they can participate in WoW raids with their buddies.
K, youtubed it... looks pretty G@yMikka_kippa
And we're glad you're not on board.
Have a friend in beta, he said the game has huge potential but it needs some fine tuning especially with the melee combat. Basically it boils down to who has more stamina potions and it takes like 2 minutes to kill someone. Majority of the skills and racial stuff was still locked to testers as of about a month ago. Can post more specifics later, but that's really all I remember off the top of my head. I'm hoping it turns out alright, but I don't know if the game will really be polished come release. I'm also weary about client and server stability, with the game being developed by a small indie team and the servers being located over in Europe.PTMagsGood information. The real question is if I should wait for the American servers.
People who don't know what Darkfall is, read this Preview. It'll give you a good insight.

Is crafting a skill which means the more practice the better the items or is it used as a replacement for getting everyday items, because essentially everything will get stolen on a daily level. If it's the first is there really NO way of protecting your created items?
*edit: Just looked it up. You can easily protect your items using the bank and you really can make anything which sounds pretty cool to me. I think I may really like this game especially if they get the economy right.
You can't even order the game anywhere.. Is it being released in US?Expo_Smacko
It will have a European release with European servers at first, though it will eventually release with servers in the US. People can still buy it and play on the EU servers if they're in the US. As for buying it, it'll most likely be a download.
You mean it's actually coming out? Wow, how long has it been in development? Ages? It all sounded so awesome at the time.....but then again so did WoW......ShotGunBunnyRumors are going around saying it will be delayed. I really hope not. The idea of having a fresh MMORPG to play within 2 weeks sounds too good. :(
Chances are that this game will be a GrindFest and Flop. The screenshots look pretty cool though...majinfaisal
I've always hated the idea of players looting your corpses. It frustrates the **** out of me knowing that I have to re-gear myself should I die. Granted, not everyone is going to strip you naked, but instead they're going to take the most valuable item, which is frustrating. Despite this, I might check it out when it comes out, but I'm not expecting much.ssvegeta555
Keep spare gear in the banks and never travel alone. Since gear is going to be easy to lose, it's not going to be that difficult to get either.
Gameplay looks marvelous. My only problem is the generic visuals..OoSuperMarioOI agree completely. The world could use some work as well. Seems like a generic fantasy world mish-mash. But I have yet to see any screenshots of the game at high settings. I've heard the game actually looks pretty good once turned all the way up. Good enough for me I say. Besides, imagine how bad the lag would be if it had AoC-level graphics. AoC sieges didn't work at all.
i don't usually take huge promises from small company seriously. and this is no exception. Jinroh_basicI have more faith in small companies than I do in large ones. Mount & Blade, for example, was created by 2-3 people. It surpasses most big-budget RPGs I've played.
glad you enjoyed the game, but that's just your opinion. sales record and overall reviews prove otherwise. i definitely don't like it.
moreover, i've checked out some footage on youtube and there's nothing terribly exciting about it.
Mount & Blade (and Darkfall) is certainly not for everyone. Darkfall is for those who want a player-run economy and player-built world with as little boundaries as possible. Some people would rather see flashy graphics, do repetitive quests, and raid for the rest of their lives.glad you enjoyed the game, but that's just your opinion. sales record and overall reviews prove otherwise. i definitely don't like it.
