Man, im impressed with how crappy the graphics are for this game.  The menu, hud, everything is low res....its like THQ didn't even bother.  I guess I now understand why they went bankrupt.  Still the game itself isn't so bad, but it doesn't live up to the first one.  Anyone else feel the same?

Did you update the game? There was a bug where the menu was being displayed in a very low-resolution and it looked pretty bad. After the update, it looks a lot better though.

Anyways I personally think the game overall looks really great. While there are some low res graphics here and there, the art style is very good and so are the effects.

Oh to clear something up, THQ went bankrupt, not the developer who made the game.  They were just in a very unfortunate situation and were sold off along with the rest of THQ's IP's.

Fan of the first one, but this didn't do it for me, played 1 hour at most at a friend and I wasn't even tempted to buy it on the last Humble sale about two weeks ago for 6$ iirc, it's a shadow of its prequel and yes, it looks worse than the first, extremely blurry, lacks any trace of definition, I didn't like the concept of the game, didn't like the main character, wasn't a fan of its open world aspect (the first one worked way better) and for me at least War's voice actor was a huge selling point for the first, the soul trader or w/e he was, was an excellent bonus, in 2 there is nothing of value on the voice acting side except the trader.

you should give it another shot, imo.  If you enjoyed the first one, I honestly do not know why you would not like the second.  Theyre different, sure, but mostly similiar.

If you have an nVidia card or can tweak the graphics use SweetFX and force both AA and VSync. Also - turn off SSAO - it doesnt help anything and is a performance crusher. With those tweaks the game looks amazing and the textures arent terrible for the art style you see. My problem with the game isnt its looks though - my problem was how long it dragged on and on. I played for 27 hrs before stopping out of fatigue. Story fell away and the time spent back tracking and roaming around got to be really annoying. I still plan to finish it but only when Im back in the mood again.

ive only gone through around 2 hours and its pretty much as you said.  I had a suspicion that darksiders II looked worse than the first but I thought that would be ridiculous so I didn't bother mentioning it.  I also don't like the new protagonist, death.  Hes alright but not as interesting as War.  Damn, although it doesn't look good, im going to try and finish this game.

i don't know how people could say it looks good??  The character and his horse is the only thing that looks good, everything else the environment looks like ass.  I could have forgiven them if the environment was detailed. I can't even call the quality of the graphics "art".

Also your point on it being like zelda is very true, but it is more similar to prince of persia, ie wall running and ledge hanging.  Even the fighting is very similar.

Darksiders has a specific art style and you can either like it or not(I think they actually emphasize that art style even more and I actually like it more in the 2nd).  I think the game play in the 2nd was way better, it really became a very unique game.  Not a GoW copy anymore with a clearly wider amount of things to do and a gap in the quality of the combat widened even further.

The first one seemed to combine some realistic looking graphics with Joe Madureira's art style and the 2nd was all his art.

Darksiders was intended to look like something ripped out of a comic book done by Joe Madureira, if you are not familiar with or don't like his artwork I can easily see why you wouldn't like the look of Darksiders and even more-so Darksiders2.  He was the main artist for Uncanny Xmen in the late 90s and most recently he did the first few issues of Avenging Spiderman(Those are what I'm aware of).

man I wish I could look at the game and call the graphics art....all I see is a steaming pile of turd.  however ive only played 2 hours so far so I haven't given up it just yet.

im not familiar with him but i have no problems with that kind of art.  In fact id love something like that.  I actually LIKED darksiders 1 graphics, but darksiders 2 looks all around low res.  Now i will definitely play it again to see if my eyes are playing tricks on me.

Like I said 2 has a stronger enmphasis on his style.  I don't really care for his style but I do think the idea is pretty cool and was done pretty well.  Mostly though I just think the game is tons of fun.

you can, you just need to get over your idea that technical prowess = beauty.

Its like saying a color picture of a crappy old neighborhood is prettier than a black and white picture of a peaceful forest just because it is newer and more technologically advanced.

Give it another shot, and just disregard the visuals

Try forcing anisotropic filtering in the Catalyst control center, helps make the textures look at little less low res which is really the only problem I have with it visually, everything else I think looks nice.

I must be the only guy on Earth who didn't enjoy Darksiders (and I gave it a good go too). Maybe cause I'm over smash-em-ups...

I didn't enjoy the first one all that much, though I've not gave it another shot in a while.

Not that it matters, but I didn't enjoy Darksiders 1 much either although I bought it day one and nearly finished the game. As far as I can remember, I'm at the last level but I abruptly stopped and I never went back to it. On the other hand, Darksiders 2 was a treat. The graphics aren't mind-blowing even in an artistic view but it's still very nice to look at. The game is a lot of fun.
