Hey guys, I had a chat with some guy earlier who talked a lot about the DayZ mod being implemented into the Arma 3 engine. I chose to believe him since he seemed like he was strongly connected to the arma community. So I researched around a bit and was able to find this video. Check it out. Do you guys know anything about this?

Well, I think DayZ is both, good and bad.

The good sides are that it was/is an interesting zombie-themed mod and that it made a lot of money for BIS.

The bad sides, however, are that it "killed" the hardcore Arma community, i.e. the ones that were playing Arma for the mil. sim experience.

So I think it's best that DayZ gets released as a standalone title, independant from the Arma universe.

Day Z mod was build on ARMA 2's engine. The creators of that mod have been working on turning the mod into a full game, and are re-writing parts of the ARMA2 engine, and adding a few things from the new ARMA 3 engine. If there's a Day Z mod for ARMA 3, it's not supported by the official devs of Day Z, as they're hard at work on Day Z standalone.

The hardcore ArmA community was kind of at an all time low when DayZ hit. ArmA 2 had been out for quite some time and the game had really run its course. DayZ was a massive breath of fresh air while everybody waiting for ArmA 3. The ArmA 3 community picked right back up and is going strong today.

The mod will be alright but DayZ Standalone will be where it's at.

It's just something Karwin tried to see if it would work. He even admits it's broken. It's not gonna happen from the main DayZ team anyway, they are focusing on the standalone and are leaving the mod to the community

First of all, the "hardcore" ArmA players were flying around in choppers with no objective. DayZ brought life into a product I would never have purchased otherwise. It's the best damn thing that could happen to Bohemia Interactive, so they will stop building their engine and start building a damn game.

Too true about the "hardcore" ArmA players. It's so hard to get a game going when the choppers are so powerful in the environment that ArmA provided, everybody just used those and ruined every game I tried to play in the past few months.

Hell I found myself playing the I44 mod more than ArmA 2 because there aren't any helos in WWII.

Hey Wasdie, do you reckon that the ArmA community will create the l44 mod for ArmA 3?

I'd like to see a GTA-style mod for Arma 3, personally.

City Life in A2 was pretty good but there's more untapped potential, imo.

Of course there should also be some big cities and addons made by the community.

From what I understood Day Z was going to become a standalone game using the same engine and with help from Bohemia.

The Day Z standalone is where it is going to be at. It will be cheap and you will be able to play from alpha to the complete. But not sure when it is going to be released, originally set for December but the creator is taking a 2 month break just recently to climb Mt. Everest. It will get here soon enough. They just don't want to release a version with too many problems. They are also just putting a lot into it so it will have plenty of improvements from the original mod.

Still, I am definitely going to check this out.

It's using bits and peices. The backend has been rebuilt for more security and for more of an MMO structure. The engine is being tuned around how DayZ is played.

Shouldn't it be like, release a polished game and as a celebration go climb Mt. Everest? This isn't the first time a developer has did this kind of thing. Kaz the maker of Gran Turismo series raced in the 24 hour Nurburgring event in the middle of making GT5.

The Developers originally intended to release back in December 2012, and Month long trips to scale Everest are extremely hard (and expensive) to cancel.

That is the case, from what i understand they'll be taking a number of things from the Arma 3 engine and re-working them into the Arma 2 engine. It'll be like Arma 2.5

Disappointing news. I was hoping to see a DayZ standalone game and after seeing the development slide off, I think the game might actually be dead before Arma 3 is released. The WarZ managed to make a game in under a year and bring it to Steam. So I don't understand why these incompetent idiots that made DayZ couldn't do the same.

Originally they had planned to do the same style of release as WarZ; Where they release the game, and gradually update new features in (as WarZ did with it's skill system) However, due to the general public not being able to understand the concept of a "foundation release", DayZ Devs had to step up their game and actually complete the game prior to charging people money for it (else steam wouldn't allow the game, due to the s**tstorm caused by WarZ) At least now DayZ will be "complete" on release, rather than the buggy mess that was the mod.

Look at what the War Z team actually made in under a year and brought to steam. Then think about who you're calling incompetent.

I'm call the DayZ mod team incompetent for the game industry. They are unable to bring their ideas to fruition. Period.
