Playing DayZ in 1st person view makes a huge difference.

It's much more immersive and scary that way, exploring at night with only your flashlight beam illuminating the zombies is creepy. I've found out I survive much longer on 1st person only servers, due to exploring much slower and always checking around me + people can't just cheese you with the 3rd person without being seen at all. And if the headbobbing is distracting you, you can just turn it off in the menu.

What do you think? Have you played in a 1st person only server, was it more immersive?

Peace!

First person camera got annoying after a while, it's far easier to traverse the environments and some of the bad clipping in third person. But you're right about people exploiting third person camera.

DayZ isnt even supposed to be played in 3rd person. Its just part of the ARMA2 game and the devs (Rocket) couldnt turn it off even if they want to. Perhaps it will be removed in the stand alone version of DayZ.

I like the third person cam, I don't think Day z should limit player options and make the game only appeal to hardcore audiences.

It's a much better game in 1st person, a lot more intense at the very least. I'd be more than happy to see 3rd person gone. That said, I do use 3rd briefly on rare occasions when I'm crawling through heavy grass and need to keep an eye on a close zed. Other than that, first person at all times.

I hate that 3rd-person servers are the majority at the moment. There's no more need for the cheese.

I agree when I first tried DayZ I wanted to use first person for the immersion but third person was better from a efficiency standpoint. I hope first person is the only option in DayZ standalone.

Very true. There should be more 1st person only servers.

First person is great for a harder more realistic time. but if you want to have more fun 3rd person is the only option. It gives you far greater spatial awareness and you can exploit the cam sometimes to get the drop on people.

Shoot on sight will be ever present from now on in DayZ. Unless the standalone has some miracle way to fix it, it will ruin the game forever more. Nothing will bring back the feeling of the mod when it first released. It was amazing then from a PvP standpoint. now it's all trigger happy guys,

People don't play ArmA2/ Day-Z in first person? Jeez. You can adjust the head bob in the options.

Both views have their advantages but yes I prefer first person as well. There are some servers that force third person mode to be disabled, so that works.

I have a feeling that the zombies will be able to be properly scripted in the standalone, making them much tougher and encouraging more teamwork.

People still won't to lose their equipment to some noob with a pistol. What they should really do is make realistic punishments for killing other players. Long range guns like snipers, that are obviously not for zombie killing, should attract many zombies from nearby since they are very loud, this combined with making zombies much more of a threat would avoid troll killing by snipers in the bushes. Also, some kind of on screen indicator as to the direction that sounds like gunshots are coming from would be very useful in getting rid of that problem and is realistic as well. Obviously changing somebody's clothing as they kill lots of people like they used to is unrealistic, but it is realistic that people would lose 'humanity' by mercilessly killing other people. Some kind of way to give those players a disadvantage without having to do something really unrealistic would be nice as well.

The issue with 3rd person is that detracts from the gameplay and is incredibly unrealistic.

No that doesn't surprise me, nor does the massive FOV advantage. What does is how well suited it is to first person, and how that's outright neglected, which is a shame.
