Apparently BI saw how popular it is. DayZ is developed by one of the main developers of ArmA 2.

Here's the news.

Anyways, BI saw how much ArmA's sales increased because of the mod and have decided to include the mod as a part of the 1.61 patch for ArmA 2!

This is exciting news! I bet that we see a stand alone DayZ game launch after ArmA 3. I know for a fact that BI will not mess this up. They are committed to the hardcore.

That is awesome news. I downloaded the demo for Arma 2 yesterday to see how it played. Definitely going to take some getting used to. I had to bring up the controls menu every 30 seconds :P

That's awesome. I just read the RPS interview a little while ago.. didn't realize that the guy who made DayZ works for Bohemia. So yeah, this definitely gives me high hopes that DayZ will be a part of Arma 3 in some way.

What you need to learn is that there is a context sensative menu for just about everything. You access it with the scroll wheel.

I'm going to wait for ArmA III and play the DayZ mod then... no point in purchasing ArmA II at this point.

I hope it gets a standalone title release. I cant wait to try it, I may get Arma2 next time its on sale now.

This is exactly the kind of game we should be getting these days, the combination of realism, surviving against the odd, the unpredictibility of your fellow man. Its the perfect kind multiplayer game.

If it's included now do you still need Arrowhead? I don't have the expansion yet and have been waiting for a good price drop to purchase an do to finally play the mod.

Nice, now i just wish it would fix the respawn system. I remember it is supposed to be permadeath with random respawn. It isn't for me, i just keep getting put back in the same place miles away from anything (I made a bad exploration choice), with the items i had when i died.

Well it's not often a game released two years ago tops Steam sales while selling at full price for days on end... ACE mod, smooth yaw control, and a large cockpit FOV, what more do you need? Honestly, if you're not playing with a decent group of players, don't even touch DayZ to save yourself the frustration, teamwork is not just forced, it is mandatory for survival, it's permadeath and you will die almost immediately on your own.

I need to ask, I want to get this mod so first:

1) What version do you need to play it OA or CO?

2) Will it work with the greenmangaming version?

You need CO. Which is ArmA 2 AND Operation Arrowhead. It should work with the greenmangaming version, as long as it is the full retail game and not the dumbed down free version they made.

GMG's giveaway ARMA 2 works, I've been using it with Day z. You just need to get OA from somewhere and install it in the same directory as ARMA2

That's what I was wondering cos OA is only 10 euro on GMG now so I wanted to know if it would work or not.

Umm... it says nothing about including the mod with the patch. It just says that they they plan on adding support to the next patch for the mod. That blog is listing quotes out of context:

Honestly I'd prefer if this mod came out for OFP a long time ago. This mod feels really late, and dealing with ArmA 2's awful engine to play it simply isn't a treat.

I thought that the free version + OA counts as Combined Operations, but last week I heard that some people managed to make it work as such. Dunno if this is standard or an exception, though.

From what I was hearing CO only gives you better character models or something but there is a lot of misinformation going around. Way I figure it I only need OA to play it since I have Arma II already

Indeed, it says "related work" in the article in the OP, not "included with". Very misleading.

My understanding it that you can use Combined Arms which is both already in one package or if you have the separate stand alones like I do when I bought ArmA II when it came out you can still get it work when both versions are installed.

I'm waiting for a price drop. The idea of this mod is genial.

They should totally consider expanding it, putting more brains and effort in a project to bring it to their next ARMA.

There have been ALOT of patches so Arma2 runs much better than it did near release.
