Hello friends,

I am in big trouble, please help me.

I got a hp compaq dc5800 microtower pc and want to upgrade it for games.

I want to install a pciex16 grphic card (like 8800 GT) but i am not sure its pciex16 slot supports this card or wether it

supports only SDVO/ ADD2 cards. Pls help me guys, if anyone has installed such graphic card in dc5800, please tell me.

I know that dc5700 microtower does not support such card but i wan to make sure for dc5800.

Thanks

It does have the Pci-e slot, but if you plan on upgrading to a powerful card, u need a new powersupply. By the way, if u wanted this PC for gaming, you should have built it yourself!

Dear friend

I m a hard core gamer and i already had a excellent gaming rig at home. But i am on assignment in different country and

has been provided with this pc. So i also know abt psu which i'll upgrade with cooler master 600W. My question is specific to

dc5800 microtower pciex16 slot. Does it support pciex16 graphic card or not.

And pls stick to technical query, it is not wise to give unnecessary comments on wether i should have built it myself or not.

Yes it supports but i dont think you can fit a card like the 9800gt in there An ati 4670 which is sufficient enough though for gaming up to 1280x1024 it will fit in there

It should work considering it's PCI-E x16 but also on the spec sheet it says "NVIDIA Quadro NVS 290 Graphics Card (optional), NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS (optional)" So it appears that offer to put one in for you, which means you could easily do it yourself.

and what might be the difference between sdvo/ADD2 pciex16 slot and a regular pciex16 slot. bcoz i learned that first one can not

accomodate pciex16 graphic cards like 8800gt. What basically is the difference in hardware? Although both slots are pciex 16.

You can NOT add a video card to that PC.SDVO/ADD2 is a proprietaryinterface made by Intel which is meant to be able to add multiple monitors a PC. These multiple monitors run off of the on-board GPU.

Though according to the HP Specs, it has a PCI-E 16X slot... The case DOES support full sized video cards, so as long as they aren't longer than the PCI-E slot or just 1 to 2 inches longer, it should be okay.

You might be able to get away with longer cards with how the insides look. So a 9800 GT should fit, just try and keep it to single slot cards and not dual slot. You'll need to upgrade the power supply though.
