ddr and ddr2

i have a question...please help whoever you are :)

i have a RAM of 512mb and on the sticks (256 each) i see "DDR" written

i bought my computer like 4 years ago

how do i know if my computer support ddr2 ?

and does a ddr2 supports ddr ?

i mean, if buy a new computer and a ddr2 RAM, will be able to

stick my current DDR in too ?

and another question..... - is the cheapest core 2 duo available better than a pentium 4 2.8ghz and just how much is it better ?

also... how many hard drives can i put on one cheap motherboard ?

1. if your pc is amd (old as yours), then only ddr will work.

2. No, (unless you want to broke your new pc)

3.  I would say yes. C2D offers lower power consumption, lower heat and high performance per clock than P4.

4.  How many IDE/SATA slots there is? You can but 2 HDD to one IDE cable, but only one HDD to SATA cable.

DDR has 184 PINs & DDR2 has 240 PINs both were like same but the difference is PINs(DDR2 has higher speeds)

I think Core 2 Duo is better than P4 2.8GHz since its a Dual Core.

If your motherboard doesn't have SATA connectors you can use upto 4 Drives using IDE connectors.

are you joking me....... Core 2 duos will run circles around Pentium 4's and other single core processors easily.

Very, very, very NOT!

Core 2 Duo  (C2D) processors are what Intel made when they realized that P4 processors could only be clocked so fast.  They finally figured out that AMD was right... you need to make your processors more efficient and not just faster... and they did it so well that C2Ds are not only more efficient than their P4s, but also AMD's current A64 processors.

A 2GHz C2D will run circles around a 3GHz P4 - even on a single threaded application!
