I would like to buy the components for an AMD computer but can't seem to build a rig that supports DDR3 within my budget. Would DDR2 be suitable for gaming for the next few years?

I don't even think the jump from DDR2 to DDR3 really has much of a performance increase to begin with..

Most PC´s would do fine with even 533Mhz DDR2, the performance gain from taking the ram to 2000Mhz over 800Mhz is almoust no gain at all for most people, but the amount of ram is more important. I´d go more ram slower clock over faster ram and less GB any day, PC2 6400/800Mhz in dualmode is fine for most people if they got the rigth amount of it. DDR3 is has higher latency over DDR2, this make the Mhz even a tad less importand in the DDR2 vs. DDR3 debate.
