I am building a new computer, waiting to choose a mobo after I pick everything else. Performance-wise, how do I know which to pick between DDR3 and DDR2? It is for gaming, what is currently recommended?

It depends on your budget. If you can afford a Wolfsdale/Yorkfield proc and a MOBO with an X38/X48 chipset...then you can prolly swing DDR3...and would benefit from it more, than if you paired it with a Conroe/Kentsfield and P35 chipset. What is your budget?

DDR3 is more expensive than DDR2 so if u have the money, go for DDR3 with the X38 or X48 chipset.

At this point and time DDR3 is basically useless. It won't really be needed until we go to the next CPU sockets, and by then any DDR3 out now, will/should be far surpassed by cheaper newer models.

look at benchmarks, right now there really is no advantage of having DDR3. Save your money and go with DDR2 and put the $$$ you save toward SLI video cards.

i completely agree with the above 2 guys, ddr3 is in its infancy, go for ddr2 the perfomane icrease for the price of ddr3 is simply not justified at the moment.
