Dead Island is the best zombie game there is, Spec Ops is pure garbage as a game and in terms of story (it gets praised for that) it's a disaster that contains every predictable twist present in all the bad action blockbusters, Mafia 2 gets a lot of hate, but it's excellent, way better than the overrated Mafia 1.

Wait for a sale, 15$ is enough to get them all.

This. Each one of those games has been heavily discounted recently.
Dead Island is more of a zombie-themed borderlands than a survival-horror shooter. So if you're into that go for it, it's a fun game. From what I've heard Spec Ops is a very fun playthrough and the story is very entertaining and delves into the controversial. So it depends what you're looking for.
Â
Spec Ops for the Story.
Dead Island for the play time and zombies.
Â
Both have good gameplay
Dead Island is really only fun if you play with friends. Â
Spec Ops has an interesting story even though it is like a modern day version of Apocalypse Now. Â Never tried the multiplayer for it. Â
Mafia 2 was pretty fun but the ending kind of killed it for me. Â The first game is far superior.
Dead Island is fun with friends. However if you play alone you will begin to question why you haven't killed yourself yet.
Spec Ops. Dead Island and Mafia 2 are trailer trash.BPoole96
Mafia 2 is a great game. Not flawless, but by no means trailer trash.
Dead Island is a good game but no the best PC port... not the best zombie game on PC at least, L4D2 takes that prize, but it is one of the best.
Spec Ops is a good game with an awesome story.
Mafia 2 is just a good game, but not very memorable from what I have heard.
Easily Spec Ops: The Line.
The gameplay is ok, but the story is groundbreaking, the kind of story that makes you rethink your entire stance on a genre.
Dead Island and Mafia 2 are both fun and more lengthy, but in terms of story both of them have very generic stories (though Mafia II has some decent voice acting and cinematics). Gameplay wise, Dead Island is the most fun, but it's a total grind and stuffed with fetch quests.
Dead Island - mediocre gameplay, good coop
Spec Ops - crap gameplay, good story
Mafia 2 - great, but very short, crappy ending
Save your money. Two out of three of those games are like getting leprosy. I haven't played Dead Island yet. I already have Left 4 Dead for that sort of thing! Mafia 2 is everything wrong with this generation.Â
Be weary of the hype surrounding Spec Ops. Its sort of an Emperor has no clothes situation.
In my opinion, dangerous here I know, people see what they want to see with that game. I heard so much about the quality of the storytelling but personally I don't believe the game is projecting half of what the developers and the community want us to think.Â
It bored me to tears - but-but its meant to be that way! you'll hear them cry! Â
I'm still getting my head around how a game can critique a genre by doing everything its supposed to be criticising. Â
Mafia 2 is everything wrong with this generation.ÂOf all the games to choose to say that about, you choose Mafia II. Why?Âbiggest_loser
Of all the games to choose to say that about, you choose Mafia II. Why? It epitomises the trend with this generation of replacing actual game play with extensively padded game play, if you're allowed to play at all, or frequent cutscenes. There's a mission where you drive out, watch a cutscene and then come back. Its ridiculous. Its such a poor game considering how good the other one was.[QUOTE="biggest_loser"] Mafia 2 is everything wrong with this generation.Â

It isn't a terrible game, but compared to other open world games like GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption, it falls flat. It's not particularly lengthy for an open world game, there is literally nothing else to do outside of story missions, and the game is needlessly padded with driving when there's nowhere to go. The story is also bland and cliched, and the gunplay is stick and not that fun.
It's not terrible though, it's worth $15 I'd say, but if you want a good third person shooter or a good open world game, I can list dozens of better examples.
Dead Island gets my vote. Spec Ops gets alot of praise but I guess I didn't get it. Never played Mafia II but the first one was ok.
Dead Island is really  good, just bought spec ops not played it yet and Mafia 2 is good but not great
I really enjoyed mafia two. It is more of a narrative focused linear game with some open world driving and setting. I loved the period authenticity and the driving  felt great. Pretty decent third person action and shooting sequences. The overall story is decent, maybe not great. But the game has great character writing and voice acting that made me care about the main characters.Â
